1 Stories in the Wall: H. C. A. Remixed An audio-based digital storytelling project inspired by the tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Primary Students Students will be guided through the story making process by a professional playwright and Arts Centre Melbourne educators to create new stories based on the tales of Hans Christian Andersen. These stories will be adapted into scripts, students cast in the roles, then rehearsed and recorded at Arts Centre Melbourne s world class Digital Learning Hub. This is a Term 2 activity. A Primary/ Secondary Student Collaboration The Installation The completed sound stories will available for patrons to hear around the foyers of Arts Centre Melbourne in November. Secondary Students Composers and Sound Designers will be selected from nominated students across Victorian secondary schools, to make the primary students stories come to life. These secondary students will be guided by Arts Centre Melbourne s team of Educators in a rare chance to have their work displayed in the foyers of Arts Centre Melbourne. This component is an extra-curricular activity for individual students, in Term 3. Photos by Morten Fauerby For more information contact Arts Centre Melbourne s Digital Learning Hub on
2 Stories in the Wall: Secondary School Involvement Arts Centre Melbourne is looking for individual Victorian Secondary School students to partner with us in this exciting composition/sound design project. We are looking for composers and sound designers to work with Educators from Arts Centre Melbourne s Digital Learning Hub to create soundtracks for stories written and recorded by primary school students. We are inviting secondary teachers to nominate individual students for the following roles: Composers: Writing, arranging and recording short musical pieces using software or live instrumentation. Sound Designers: Sourcing, editing and arranging sound effects and textures. As this is an extra-curricular activity, we are looking to find students who have a good grasp of music to work on the composition side of the activity. We are interested in all styles of music. For the sound design component, we are looking for students with a basic understanding of working with audio in a computer environment or an interest in sound design for theatre/film. This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in a real-life creative environment and to have their work featured in the public spaces of Arts Centre Melbourne. The Project The Stories in the Wall project is a collaboration between Victorian primary and secondary students to create a series of audio-based digital story installations. The stories will be re-imaginings of classic Hans Christian Andersen tales, produced to coincide with Arts Centre Melbourne s upcoming show Hans Christian, You Must Be An Angel (12 to 14 November - Suitability: Years 3 to 6). The selected secondary students will be taking stories written and recorded by primary students and creating the musical soundtrack and the sound design. The finished sound stories will be installed in the foyers of Arts Centre Melbourne for public exhibition in November. Upon a successful application, Arts Centre Melbourne staff will contact teachers and students to organise session times and access to the Digital Learning Hub s facilities. Timing and Commitment Workshops at the Digital Learning Hub will happen over three Saturdays in Term 3. While the first session will be compulsory to attend, students may be able to finalise their work from home or school upon negotiation with Arts Centre Melbourne staff. Regional students are encouraged to apply as video conferencing facilities (Polycomm/Skype) can be made available if students are unable to travel to Melbourne for the sessions. Cost H. C. A. Remixed There is no ticket price or charge from Arts Centre Melbourne for your students involvement. Travel to and from Arts Centre Melbourne will be the responsibility of the student.
