Our on- line professors are Critical Care practice experts with over 20 years experience They are all Masters or PhD prepared and/or have CNA certification [CNCC (C); ENC(C)] Our Simulation Instructors are an Interprofessional Team of Registered Nurses with vast experience in Critical Care and Emergency and also Respiratory Therapists Instructor bios are listed in each course
7 Tips for Success in the Program Read the Program guide in its entirety for important information Review the Program of Study course deadlines to keep you on track your instructors if you need assistance Remember to apply before the deadline for simulation Review the DC Critical Care Website for updates and frequently asked questions Check the Learning Management System known as DC Connect for updates to your courses

10 Extensions Please note there are no longer extensions available for this program.
11 Simula&on Simulation is the 7 th course and 2 nd last in the program You must successfully complete all on- line courses with a minimum of 70% average to proceed to Simulation To attend Simulation Labs you must apply before the deadline for your cohort (deadline is available in your Program of Study) Applications for Durham College Sim Lab are found on our website at and once completed should be to Carol Connor carol.connor@durhamcollege.ca (not the Program Coordinator)
12 Simula&on (cont d) If you are applying to attend simulation at one of our Sim Partner sites please contact the Program Coordinator, Margret Campkin and she will provide you with the contact information for that lab There is an additional tuition fee for attending Sim at Sim Partner site (fees depend on the Sim Partner- approximately $700- $800) which is payable to the Sim Partner if attended outside of Durham College If you are attending Simulation at Durham College there is no additional fee The Sim course at Durham College is typically run over two weekend sessions
13 Sim Dates for Your Cohort Refer to the Critical Care website for upcoming Sim dates at Durham College There is a choice of two sim labs, of two weekends each, per cohort You must have completed all online course in order to proceed to Sim Contact co- ordinator by if you plan to take Simulation at a partner site (**extra tuition cost)

16 Prac&cum the Final Course Durham College will facilitate your preceptored practicum experience for you and will provide you with a Durham College Faculty Advisor We strongly recommend that you complete your practicum in your own hospital; this can avoid delays in placement We will attempt to provide you with your 1 st preference for placement If you have >3 years full time experience you may be eligible to challenge practicum If you work in Critical Care and are not currently preceptored you will be eligible for mentorship for your practicum Out of province students must have their own placement confirmed prior to attending the program
17 Prac&cum (cont d) You must have successfully completed online courses and simulation prior to completing practicum Practicum consists of 10 X 12 hour shifts (120 hours) Our Faculty Advisors have vast experience in Critical Care and critically ill patients in the ED
18 Keeping on Track in the Program In order that you keep on track with the Program and finish on time please follow the Program of Study that is posted in each of your courses Keep your calendar in front of you so that you do not lose track of the dates and get behind The program is designed so that can work on small pieces at a time (i.e. 20 minute segments)
19 Important Dates Also check the Program of Study for individual course deadlines Remember: you can finish earlier than your assigned deadlines Make sure you apply to Simulation by the deadline for your cohort so that you may have the Sim dates of your choice (see website)
20 Final Thoughts The faculty and staff are available to support your progress through the program, please do not hesitate to us if you have questions Starting the Course the first two weeks of the program is the time that everyone starts getting settled into the program so do not feel you are behind if you did not start right on the 1 st day Your courses become available to you in hours once your tuition payment is processed Allow 4 6 weeks to complete each course (except Intro to e- Learning, this takes much less time to complete)
