1 How sustainable is your home? Sustainability audit of an existing residential building and site
2 Task You are thinking of selling your place of residence and new rules require a audit of your home to be available for inspection by interested buyers and completed prior to sale Rationale and aims This unit is seen as an introduction to Geography through urban planning. It incorporates the use of information technologies, fieldwork skills, analysis and synthesis of data and further development of skills in visual presentation. Assessment This unit will be assessed in the form of: A (1500 word maximum) audit TABLE clearly showing the elements that you have selected from the working table provided; researched, analysed and collated with properly captioned illustrations, plans and photographs for each element. Include a bibliography in text referencing. A (200 word maximum) reflection on what you have learned from executing this audit. Step 1 Conduct a literature review on sustainable residential buildings and lot design. Using the working table provided select the elements and criteria applicable to your choice of building and site. Those selected are your inquiry questions questions you hope to answer through your research of primary and secondary data. Step 2 Conduct a site and building analysis using the information you have collected, and illustrate with sketches and/or diagrams. Include a note on the owner ship of the property and if necessary permission from the owner to audit the property. The information provided will only be used for assessment purposes. The body of your assignment will be made up of the elements you select from the working table to focus on. Step 3 Analyse and synthesise your research material and your notes in the submission table format. Finalise the submission table with illustrations. Step 4 Reflect on what you have learnt from completing this task. Include statements on how your skills and attitudes have changed and what you would have done differently if you could redo this assignment. 2
