1 2016 Summer Select GIRLS Basketball Program
2 About the OSA Crusaders Summer Select GIRLS Program The Omaha Sports Academy is proud to announce we are ramping up our efforts on the high school girls side of the program! OSA Crusaders Girls Teams will play a more competitive schedule than ever and will be coached by some of the top coaches in Nebraska! The OSA Crusaders girls program will focus on skill and team development and exposing our athletes to colleges by playing tournaments during each of the NCAA live periods! Our schedule is highly competitive, will allow our athletes to still participate with their high school programs during the month of June, and will give our players maximum and appropriate exposure! Leadership/Coaching: The OSA Crusaders program directors include Marc Kruger, Millard West Girls Head Coach, Tom Krehbiel, Boys Town Head Coach, and Brittany Wilson, OSA Girls Select Basketball Coordinator. This professional leadership group is as good as it gets and is committed to working with your child to enable them to be the best that they can be while teaching them a love and desire for this great game! OSA teams can count on great coaches who put development first and excellent oversight of the program provided by the OSA leadership of Coach Brittany Wilson, Coach Charles Thompson, and Coach Mike Mackie. The OSA programʼs focus is to strengthen and improve each playerʼs individual skill set through attention to detail instruction, intense repetition and practice, and competitive experience. Our select coaches are highly qualified and are under the direct tutelage of our professional staff OSA CRUSADERS Summer Select GIRLS Tryouts Players should try out for the grade level in which they are currently enrolled. 3 15, 16 and 17 Year Old National GIRLS Teams (current freshman/sophomores/juniors) High School National Girls Teams will participate in a highly competitive schedule consisting of nine tournaments between April and July, many of which will take place during the NCAA live viewing periods where Division I and II coaches will be there to observe. Our schedule will be challenging and will pit our players against other highly competitive programs where they will be able to showcase their skills in front of college coaches of all levels. Players will greatly benefit from significantly enhanced competitive opportunities and will play in front of more college coaches than ever before! Schedules can be found on our website at - click OSA CRUSADERS SUMMER SELECT, and then click HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS. 15, 16 and 17 Year Old Regional GIRLS Teams (current freshman/sophomores/juniors) Over the last several years, the OSA Crusaders program has developed into one that has proven to be a great opportunity for its participants. OSA Crusaders regional teams compete at the highest of levels, have outstanding coaches, are exposed to significant recruiting opportunities and develop as sound basketball players! While we understand most people strive to make the national team, the OSA regional experience is one that speaks for itself and has proven over time to be a successful avenue to recruiting opportunities and growth as basketball players! Families are responsible for getting their children to tournaments, as well as for the accommodations and meals. OSA will assist in setting up hotel blocks for families, and it should be noted that families are usually great about coordinating rides and oversight for children whose parents might not be able to attend. Schedules can be found on our website at - click OSA CRUSADERS SUMMER SELECT, and then click HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS. 5 th 8 th Grade GIRLS National Teams The OSA Select 5 th 8 th grade summer program provides a great opportunity for athletes to enhance their skill sets and compete against high-level competition. Players will compete in 10 tournaments between April and August, including national level tournaments in Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Oklahoma. Families are responsible for getting their children to tournaments, as well as for the accommodations and meals. OSA will assist in setting up hotel blocks for families. Schedules can be found on our website at - click OSA CRUSADERS SUMMER SELECT, and then click YOUTH GIRLS. 5 th 8 th Grade GIRLS Regional Teams Players will play 9-10 tournaments between April and August. Tournaments will be a mix of MAYB tournaments and other credible tournaments that are within driving distance. This set of teams can count on great coaches who put development ahead of winning. Excellent
4 oversight of the program is provided by the OSA Leadership, namely Coach Brittany Wilson, Coach Charles Thompson and Coach Mike Mackie, from which ALL players will benefit, regardless of team placement. OSA will assist in setting up hotel blocks for families, and it should be noted that families are usually great about coordinating rides and oversight for children whose parents might not be able to attend. Schedules can be found on our website at - click OSA CRUSADERS SUMMER SELECT, and then click YOUTH GIRLS. 3 rd and 4 th Grade GIRLS Teams New this year, the OSA Summer Select is adding a program specifically designed for 3 rd and 4 th grade girls! The emphasis of the program will be for these young athletes to develop fundamental skills and an understanding of the game through fun and intensive skill academies, team practices, and competition. Our once-a-week team practices will provide athletes an opportunity to continue individual skill development as well as an understanding of offensive, defensive, and transition concepts. In addition to our weekly practice, we will hold Skills Academies throughout the spring and summer months, which will be administered by OSA Girls Select Coordinator Brittany Wilson and the OSA Elite Skills Training Staff. These sessions will be solely dedicated to individual player development in which players will focus on various essential fundamentals and skills. The last component of the summer program is the competition wherein our teams will participate in five tournaments. The games will provide athletes an opportunity to put into action the skills and concepts learned in the team practices and skill academies. Schedules can be found on our website at - click OSA CRUSADERS SUMMER SELECT, and then click YOUTH GIRLS. 3 rd /4 th Grade Girls Format: Spring Practices: Saturdays April 2 nd May 28 th Summer Practices: Tuesdays May 31 st July 26 th Spring skill academies: Mondays April 4 th - May 30 th Summer skill academies: Mondays and Thursdays June 13 th July 28 th Practices: OSA Staff is always learning cutting edge trends and is not afraid to educate themselves on a continued basis. In past years, OSA professional staff members have attended the Thunder, Spurs, and Cavs training camps, have been guests at the highly prestigious College Point Guard Camp (PGC), Metro Basketball Coach Athletics, and collegiate and high school practices around town. The objective is for our players to be consistently exposed to the newest ideas and current trends in youth basketball, allowing us to incorporate these trends into our highly successful core fundamental and schematic training. You can count on OSA practices to be crisp, professionally run, and fun for your child! Practice time will focus on skill development as well as offensive and defensive team
5 concepts. Players will be pushed both physically and mentally, yet still have fun each time they attend. Our unique practice format allows for each player to focus on five key areas at each practice: scoring, defensive principles, transition, fast break/ball handling, and offensive team principles. At all practices, one of our professional staff will be directly involved and hands-on with your child s team. This allows us to teach a progressive skill set and schemes to everyone in the program. Practice Schedules: Typically, U15-U17 Girls Practices will be held on Sunday afternoons/evenings and Tuesday or Wednesday evenings in April and May. 4 th 8 th Grade Girls Practices will typically be held on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings in April and May. We recognize that high school programs typically hold their camps, clinics and summer leagues in June. As a result, we will not hold U14 U17 team practices in June to allow players to participate with their high school teams. All U14 U17 girls teams will practice daily June 27 th thru July 1st. Players are still encouraged to attend the Mon/Thurs Skills Academies. Complete schedules will include June and July practices, and will be handed out at the Parent/Player Meetings. Summer Select Skills Academy: These academies serve as a great OSA Crusader Formula for Development of Impact Players TEAM PRACTICE COMPETITION compliment to team practices and the tournaments we play. While competition and regular team practices are very important, our Summer Select Skills Academies are what put our players over the top, with an emphasis on developing impact players from an individual skills standpoint. Specific focus includes: SKILLS ACADEMY High Level Skills Repetition High Level Skills Instruction Ball Handling Shooting One on One Moves Decision Making Specific Moves Intense Transition Summer Select Skills Academy Mondays & Thursdays June 13 July 28 4 th 7 th Boys: 1:00pm 2:30pm U14 U17 Boys: 2:30pm 4:00pm In December 2014, I unfortunately tore my ACL in the middle of my 8 th grade season. OSA Girls Select Coordinator, Brittany Wilson, continued to support and encourage me. Six months later I came to work out with Brittany once a week and then we met twice a week after nine months had passed. Brittany continues to work with me, and it shows me that OSA really cares about me as a person and wanted to help me get back on the court as soon as I was ready! Brittany is the BEST Coach I have had, and I am thankful for my experiences at OSA! -Akili Felici, freshman, Bellevue West Girls Varsity Basketball Team
