Examination of the course or sub-course takes the form of continuous assessment combined with presentations and concerts. Grades Students are awarded one of the following grades: Fail or Pass. To be awarded a Pass for the course in its entirety, the student must have fulfilled the learning outcomes of each subject. Admission Requirements Course acceptance requires the basic eligibility for studies at universities and university colleges in Sweden and successful entrance auditions to the Master of Education in Music programme. Literature and Other Teaching Materials Course literature is provided in an appendix (please see schedule). Course Evaluation The course in its entirety will be evaluated upon its completion. General questions concerning learning outcomes, course content, work and teaching methods should be central issues. Music and Society, Research Methodology, Media Technology: Texts and Images Swedish Learning Outcomes On completion of the course the student shall demonstrate computer literacy in both word and image processing used to create his/her work placement reports, degree projects, material concerning research methodology, as well as visual presentations in the form of programmes and posters demonstrate the ability to critically review Internet sources, as well as give an account of the regulations concerning copyright law demonstrate the ability to define early musical eras within Western classical music and describe the most important works, different musical formations as well as composers demonstrate the ability to describe the connections between social development, cultural expression and musical evolution as exemplified by the early periods of Western classical music demonstrate the ability to give an account of, and argue for, differing points of view concerning questions regarding the study of instruction and learning, using his/her individual learning process as a point of departure demonstrate the ability to make observations, interviews and keep a journal, as well as provide reflections and reports in conjunction with a short study regarding practice routines.
18 Course Content Music and Society: This course provides a summary of music up until the Baroque period, as well as a more thorough study of Baroque music using works by primarily Bach and Handel. The course continues by illustrating the development of the sonata, concerto, and symphony by the three great composers of Viennese classicism: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Research Methodology: Various methods for gathering data are introduced in this course, including observation and interview techniques. Media technology: This course covers the practical application and editing of texts and digital images taken from various presentations within the programme. Music and Society, Research Methodology, Development and Learning, Instrumental Methodology On completion of the course the student shall be able to define the latter musical eras within Western classical music and describe the most important works, different musical formations as well as composers give an account of Western classical music s role in modern society formulate a written report based upon his/her experiences of the work placement period, utilising frame factor theory and knowledge acquired during the sub-course Media Technology: Texts and Images, from the first term contemplate his/her individual position regarding various types of leadership models and roles plan and execute occasional teaching exercises in music and arts schools, as well as consider different teaching strategies in order to meet the needs and requirements of music students of various ages and levels of competency reflect upon his/her career choice based upon experiences garnered from the work placement period use different methods and devices to plan and lead activities for children and youth.
20 Course Content Music and Society: The Romantic period s most important musical forms, the characteristics of Impressionism, and the development of modern music, as illustrated by the most well known composers of those eras. Swedish classical music s most important works. Research Methodology: Continued studies in the various methods of data collection. Frame factor theory is introduced to illustrate the various factors that determine and, of necessity, must guide, the teacher s work. This information is used for a report on the work placement period in the second term. Development and Learning: Group psychology, educational leadership, project leadership, as well as leadership and interaction with children and youth. Instrumental Methodology: Different strategies for fundamental instruction in instrument and voice, in conjunction with the work placement period and relevant to the instrument and genre of choice. Work placement period: Two week s placement at a music and arts school combining class observation and teaching. Teaching and Assessment Teaching methods and forms of assessment and examination. Music and Society: Written examination Research Methodology: Written research report. The work placement period will be assessed by the methodology instructor in conjunction with the supervisor. Instrumental Methodology: Continuous assessment combined with a short written assignment. Reflect upon his/her individual learning process. Development and Learning: Child development (0-12 years), neuropsychology, the musical development of children, methodology part 1. Instrumental Methodology: Independently created and developed strategies and plans for fundamental instrumental or voice training relevant to both instrument and genre. Teaching and Assessment Teaching methods and forms of assessment and examination. Music and Society: Written examination. Research Methodology: Written research report.
