2 Dear Masters, Instructors, and Taekwondo Practitioners; It is our great pleasure that we invite you to the first ever 2017 KP&P Open Taekwondo Championship to be held at Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham, Ontario on February 18th, This is a fully sanctioned Ontario Taekwondo Association ( OTA ) event and as such World Taekwondo Federation ( WTF ) competition rules will be in effect for all black belt divisions and OTA competition rules for all color belt divisions. The main goal of the competition is to support of local athletes and grow the sport of Taekwondo throughout the province Ontario. It takes considerable determination and discipline to participate and excel in Taekwondo. It is our objective for participants attending our championship not only to test their skills, knowledge and techniques against their fellow Taekwondo brothers and sisters, but to learn and grow from an enriching and positive experience in their personal quest for Taekwondo excellence. 4 COMPETITION RULES COLOUR BELT SPARRING DIVISIONS (Sparring) OTA competition rules for all colour belts 11 & under colour belt sparring competition will be 2 rounds, 45 seconds each with 30 seconds break 12 & up colour belt sparring competition will be 2 rounds 1 minute each 30 seconds break. No head contact for colour belts Manual KPNP Electronic Scoring for all colour belt sparring divisions The Tournament Host reserves the right to separate or combine divisions at their discretion based on age and weight or other discretionary factors BLACK BELT RECREATIONAL DIVISIONS (Sparring) WTF competition rules Sparring competitions will be 2 rounds 1.5 minutes with 45 seconds rest period will end match with a 12 point gap at the end of 1 st round. The Tournament Host reserves the right to separate or combine divisions at their discretion based on age and weight or other discretionary factors HIGH PERFORMANCE BLACK BELT SPARRING All athletes will be bracketed in WTF Olympic, Junior Olympic and consolidated Cadet Weight categories. All athletes will require KPNP electronic Sensor socks. They can be purchased by contacting or asking your Dojang Master. Alternatively, socks will be available for sale on site, however to ensure you are ready, it is recommended that you purchase before the games. All divisions will compete with the KPNP Electronic Scoring System (including KPNP E-Head Gear) Single Elimination with WTF Black Belt full-contact rules. Sparring competitions will be 3 rounds 1.5 minutes with 45 seconds rest period; will end match with a 12 point gap at the end of 2st round. Poomsae / PATTERNS Rules Participants may only perform the mandatory Kukkiwon approved Taegeuk Patterns (Color Belt) Participants may only perform the mandatory Kukkiwon approved black Belt patterns (Black Belt) Recognized Poomsae Y neck Uniform Recommended for Black Belt divisions. 9 Coach Registration Form Each Taekwondo school participating in the 2017 KPNP OPEN will be granted one free coach pass by registering at least one competitor on Tournament Days before February 18 th, Additional coach passes will cost $ 15 pre-registered for one or two days. There is NO COACH REGISTRATION ON TOURNAMENT DAYS! All coaches must be black belts and registered with Kukkiwon and must be a good standing member of the Ontario Taekwondo Association.
