5 COLLEGE FACILITIES The Chelsea Centre (8 mins from Fulham Broadway Tube Station) sits in the heart of the Chelsea design quarter and is situated by London s famous King s Road with its fashionable boutiques and coffee shops and a stone throw away from Chelsea Football ground. It offers students access to the latest technology, spacious fashion studios, professional Mac design suites and new photography darkroom facilities. It also boasts a large exhibition and conference hall, a vibrant café, modern library facilities with laptops and ipads. The Kensington Centre (12 mins from Paddington Train Station) is located close to the trendy Portobello Road and bustling Notting Hill and takes its lead from the creative atmosphere of the local area, such as The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising. Our art and design studios are based in Kensington and include excellent facilities for ceramics, glass and jewellery as well as graphic design and digital multimedia. We also offer a library with excellent access to IT facilities and a vibrant canteen. We understand that experiencing life away from home can be very exciting and challenging at the same time. To help meet those challenges we put a strong focus on supporting our international students and listening to their views. With its many attractions, cultural life, entertainment, parks, and many historic places to visit, London is a fantastic place to live and study. Kensington and Chelsea College is in a prime location. it is 35 minutes away from Heathrow airport and you are only a short train or bus journey away from the city s most exciting touristic attractions like Covent Garden and famous historical places such as Buckingham Palace. If life for you is about being outdoors, the many spacious parks in the capital is where you may want to be. You can also visit many of the outdoor concerts and theatres productions such as the ones from The Shakespeare Globe Theatre. Whatever you choose, your time at Kensington will be one to remember! We understand the importance of socialising outside of the classroom and our students are encouraged to take advantage of all that London has to offer, to make new friends and experience the diversity of London life. 7 QUALIFICATION GLOSSARY What s an HND? A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a work-related course provided by higher and further education colleges in the UK. A full-time HND takes two years to complete. HND is the equivalent to two years at university. What s an HNC? A full-time Higher National Certificate (HNC) takes one year to complete. Many HNC courses cover the same subjects as an HND, but an HNC is one level below an HND (it s generally equivalent to the first year at university). What are the benefits of an HND or HNC? Unlike many degrees, these courses are vocationally focussed and therefore can lead straight on to a career. Moreover, they re a great stepping stone up to a higher qualification, as you can choose to top up an HND or HNC with extra studies at a later date, in order to convert it to a full bachelor s degree. BTEC - Business and Technology Education Council BTECs are vocational qualifications designed to give students the skills they need to either move on to higher education or go straight into employment. Encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning, BTEC develops the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills essential for professional life or to enter university. CACHE An internationally recognised, specialist Awarding Organisation in the fields of Early Years, Care and Education and Play-work. This qualification is suitable for a range of learners wishing to work in early years education and care. City and Guilds Diploma City and Guilds qualifications are widely accepted by employers around the world as the benchmark for excellence and help to create a mobile and flexible workforce suitably qualified to succeed even in today s challenging economic climate.
