Learners will further develop an understanding into the developments of travel and tourism and how these developments have affected the sector. Scenario You are working in a travel and tourism organisation and you have been asked to design an induction session for new employees. This can be either a written information pack or a presentation that you will present to new employees. P1 Describe the travel and tourism component industries and provide examples of domestic, inbound and outbound organisations within them Task 1 For this task you must explain all travel and tourism industries and give examples of domestic, inbound and outbound within them. You must include the following in your work to achieve a PASS: Introduction: You must clearly define the 3 different types of tourism: 1) Inbound 2) Outbound 3) Domestic Ensure you give at least ONE clear example of each. The main body of this task asks you to describe the travel component industries and identify one organisation within each. The industries you MUST include, in brackets a the sub areas in each: 1)Accommodation (Hotels, Guest Accommodation) 2) Transport (Road, Rail, Sea, Air) 3)Visitors Attractions (Natural,Heritage, purpose build, events) 4)Tour operations ( mass market, specialist, associations) 5) Travel Agents (Business, Call centres, Online) 6) Tourism development and promotion (RDAs, Local authority departments, Trade associations) 7)Ancillary services
3 You should have sub sections on each component industry. Each sub section Must include: 1) Explanation of the component 2) Examples of an organisation within that industry 3) Examples of inbound, outbound and domestic organisations and tourism. This provides evidence for P1 Deadline: 14 th October 2013 P2: Describe the roles of different travel and tourism organisations Task 2 For this task you must first choose three different examples of businesses in the travel and tourism industry. Each organisation should be from a different component industry and at least one should from a large and a medium industry. For example, Hilton Hotel would be from the accommodation industry and would be a large organisation. You will need to research into each organisation and address the following key issues: to meet key organisational aims e.g. to make a profit, maximise sales revenue, increase market share, ensure compliance with regulations to provide products and services (to other organisations, for the industry, for customers) e.g. to put together packages, provide accommodation, provide scheduled flights, provide sea transport, sell leisure travel products, sell business travel products, promote tourism within the UK, provide services to tourists to the UK to be responsible to stakeholders e.g. shareholders, customers, members to be environmentally and ethically responsible, to contribute to international and UK economies e.g. GDP, balance of payments, employment. Explain each section in detail in relation to your chosen organisation. This provides evidence for P2 Deadline: 26th October
4 P3- Review the different types of interrelationships and provide examples Task 3 For this task you will be reviewing the different types of interrelationships within the travel and tourism industry. This assignment is based upon 3 main sections. 1) Chain of distribution 2) Integration(Horizontal and Vertical) 3) Interdependencies In section 1 and 2 you must: 1) Define the interrelationship 2) Illustrate with a diagram 3) Explain how interrelationship would 4) Include relevant up-to-date examples. In section 3 you must: 1) Define interdependencies 2) Explain why they are important to the organisation? 3) How do they impact customers? This provides evidence for P3 Deadline: 21 ST November M1 Explain the roles of different organisations within travel and tourism component industries and how they inter-relate. D1- Analyse the importance of interrelationships within one travel and tourism organisation. M1 Task This task builds on your work for P2 and P3. You need to select 2 organisations from different components of the industry. Make sure that one of the organisations is a medium to large company. For each organisation you need to: Explain in detail the interrelationships between the company and other companies. This could be in terms of chains of distribution, integration or interdependence. This provides evidence for M1
5 Deadline 4 th December 2013 D1 Task Select one organisation from your M1 task: This can be done as a separate assignment or added to your M1 task. In this assignment you must analyse the importance of interrelationships. You will need to research into your organisation and the different interrelationships that occur. For each inter-relationship you will need to explain the importance of it, and how it benefits the organisation. What would happen if they did not have this interrelationship? The work has to be analytical and it is important that the selected organisation will provide sufficient coverage of all aspects of interrelationships. For example, a large tour operator could have complex chains of distribution that may involve many levels, ie sales directly to the customer through their own call centres, via their own website, sales indirectly to customers via high street retail agents, via web-based agents. The tour operator may be integrated horizontally and vertically and they will have certain interdependencies such as retail travel agents, principals (flights and accommodation) and excursion providers. This provides evidence for D1 Deadline: 2 nd January 2014 This brief has been verified as being fit for purpose Internal verifier
