1 Cumberland University Cheerleading/Dance Tryouts When: April 17, 2014 (cheer clinic) 4:30-7:00PM & April 18, 2014 (tryouts) 9-11:00AM Where: Dallas Floyd (gym) Females should wear black cotton shorts with a white athletic tank top or bra top. Hair should be worn halfway up with a white ribbon. Cheerleading shoes are required. Dancers- jazz shoes. Males should wear black athletic/basketball shorts, a presentable maroon or white tee shirt tucked in, and tennis shoes. Minimum skills required for cheer: Minimum skills required for dance: Spots Available 8 Spots Available Ability to lead a crowd- appearance and poise Bring 16 counts of Jazz/Hip Hop Spirit and enthusiasm-coordination and rhythm Demonstrate: Leaps, Splits, and Kicks Motions/technique/jumps Partner stunts-tumbling Interested individuals must bring $10 (cash only) **Scholarships Available** If interested, contact Ruth Currie at rcurrie@cumberland.edu
2 Thank you for your interest in Cumberland University Spirit Program! Cumberland is a small private university with a growing spirit program. The cheer squad currently has spots available. (Male and female) The dance team has 8 spots available. The squads currently cheer and perform at home games for varsity football, men s basketball and women s basketball. Occasionally, we will travel to away games. The squads practice twice a week, with one practice dedicated to stunts, perfecting skills, and gymnastics. I am proud of the success these squads had last season and looking forward to developing competitive teams. We will be attending NCA College Camp, July 30-August 1 at the University of Louisville. Cumberland University 2015 Tryout Information: Tryout Attire: Females should wear black cotton shorts with a white athletic tank top or bra top. Hair should be worn halfway up with a white ribbon. Tryout Clinic: Friday April 17, 2014, 4:30 PM-7:00 PM Tryout Date: Saturday April 18, 2014, 9:00 AM-11:00 AM - Doors will open at 8am for warm up/review time as well as stunting preparation. - The squad list will be posted immediately after the final tryout. 3 The MANDATORY clinic days on April 17 and April18 are CLOSED to parents and all other spectators. We will need the following from you at tryouts: 1. CU Cheer/Dance Application 2. Copy of letter of acceptance 3. Front and back copy of insurance card 4. $10 tryout clinic fee (cash only, you will receive a receipt) Absolutely no jewelry! Tumbling and Jumps Standing back handspring and/or back tuck CU Cheer Tryout Requirements A combination running pass. (ex. round off back handspring, back tuck, layout or full) Non tumblers will attend tumbling classes Jumps Toe Touch Pike Hurdler Herkie (optional) Stunts: Walk in stunts(extension, liberty, and stretch) Hands (extension, liberty, and stretch) Full up stunts (extension, liberty, stretch, awesome/cupie) Double down out of stretch Full down out of extension, liberty Basket Toss
