1 Shake N Bake Basketball Services High School Level Author: Ganon Baker Methods of Teaching 1. Be a mirror: correct wrong, praise right, repetition. 2. Teach how to do it, and then tell them why. 3. Teach in progression. Use numbers with clear communication. 4. Teach Form, Speed then Contact. 5. Have enthusiasm and passion 6. Have fun and challenge players. (75% of all kids who started playing sports at age 7 quite by age 15.USA today.) 10 Commandments to Offensive Development 1. Play the game low-to-high.- Live Low 2. Shoulders/Hips Get the explosion advantage. 3. Feet first, ball second Feet give you advantage, ball gives you separation. Long, low steps. 4. Perfect Feet, Perfect Follow-through Quality of your feet determines the quality of your shot. 5. Pound Dribble Quicker ball makes you quicker. 6. Shoulders Game Your shoulders will determine whether you get leverage advantage and/or explosion advantage. 7. WNBA/NBA Ball Short, Violent Fakes. 8. Universal Stance - Hips Dropped - Feet Shoulder Width Apart - Steel Rod in Back 9. Universal Release - Elbow behind ball - Wrist back behind ball - Arm and wrist with locked elbow extended through ball on finish 10. Court Savvy Court Vision - Play with poise and balance and see the game a play ahead

2 I. Ball Handling / Driving A. Stationary Partner Drills Ball Wraps - All Players with a ball. Players start the drill. On the whistle, they pass to partner and continue drilling. Coaches give contact. - Head, Waist - Waist, Leg with dribble - Universal Stance - 1 Hand Flips - Rhythm Drill - Single leg 3 times with dribble Competition: become quicker than partner Tennis Ball Dribbling All Players with a tennis ball and basketball. Players toss the tennis ball, execute the dribble move, and catch the tennis ball with palms up first than challenge them to catch the tennis ball with palms down. - Jab to side - Jab to middle - Behind Back - Crossover - Through Legs - Combination Move ex: double cross Competition: If you lose dribble or double dribble, start sit-ups with dribble Reach and Teach Players face each other, one on offense with the ball the other on defense. They stand 1 arm length apart. Offense player starts dribble, when defense moves to reach the offense executes 1 move past the defense and takes two explosive steps past. They turn around and repeat for 30 seconds. Switch. B. Moves on the Move 2 Ball Dribble / Pass Drill Partners line up on the baseline one behind the other. The person in front has two balls. Players start stationary dribble executing the following moves: crossover, through legs, behind back, side to side, and up and back. On the whistle players dribble both balls to the midline of the court, turn and pass on ball at a time to their partners on the baseline in receiver ready position.

3 2 vs 2 1 on 1 Offense player has 2 balls. Defensive player has 1 ball. Offense goes by the defender as many times as he can. If the defense steals a ball, then they become offense. C. 1 on 1 Games 2 Ball Chase 1 Player starts driving to ½ court with 2 balls. 1 player chases and knocks one ball away. They then attach the basket and play 1 on 1 with defender that is waiting. After they finish, offense stays to play defense on the next player at ½ court who has a ball. Defenseive Slide 1 vs 1 Player 1 slides from chair to chair. Player 3 drives past player 2 with arms out and feet together. Player 3 must score, then pass the ball out to player 1 and become defense for the 1 on 1 game. 4 dribble limit. Trailblazer 1 on 1 Offense lines up on the baseline. Defense lines up on the block. When coach says explode, players run around the cones and play 1 on 1. Winner stays.

4 II. Finishing A. Warm Up Training Wheel Series for Moves Players form 6 lines extended full court facing coach with a ball. Players begin in triple threat position. Coach yells out direction (stance, pivot, shot/hook, shot fake etc.). Players pivot on coinciding foot and shoot to themselves. Iverson Pivots - catch, spin (outside pivot) - catch, sweep (inside pivot) - catch, fake, go (inside pivot) B. Finishing School Floater (Diagram 1) Players start in a line each with a ball. 1 step, 10 in a row off correct foot. Side, middle side NBA Lays 1Ball. Players line up behind 3 pt line. First player dribbles into a layup and gets his own rebound. Once rebounded the next player takes off and receives a pass. Repeat. Ball does not hit the floor, in a row in 1 minute.

5 Dribble Drop (Wade) 2 lines starting higher than blocks. Each player with a ball. Players dribble toward midline touch inside hands and spin to the rim to score. Hook / Step Through 2 lines starting higher than blocks. Each player with a ball. Players take 1 dribble, 2 steps executes the move between the cones. Must make 10 in a row. Separation Chair Drill 2 lines on the baseline. Each player with a ball. Players dribble hard out to chair tap the chair with the ball and separate with Iverson Pivot, drive to basket, separate on finish with a move. One line drives to top of kill box and the other drives to the bottom of the kill box

6 C.1 on 1 Games 2 Ball Baker J s Player 1 and 2 shoot J s, whoever makes it is on offense, other is on defense. Offensive player gets the ball from player 3. 1 on1 begins whoever scores gets ball from chair and plays offense in another 1 on1 set. Player 3 and 4 are rebounders. Baseline Touch Player 3 says go, players 1 and 2 sprint and touch baseline with foot and sprint to their right. Player 3 throws ball that way and 1 st player to the ball is offense, other is defense. Offense has 3 dribble limit. Alternate drill use cones. III. Shooting / Triple Threat A. Warm Up Dance Steps - Players make 3 lines behind coach. Coach executes the following moves while players do the same thing. Ball does not hit the ground throughout drill. Execute the following moves out of the triple threat. - 3 step pullup with stride stop - 2 step weakside/sweep with stride stop pullup - Jump stop - Step out

7 B. Shooting Drills Jordan Series Elbow chair pickup Player goes from elbow to elbow shooting J s on catch than off dribble. Make 4-6 in 30 seconds. Player 2 is rebounder. Mix up drill by cutting in backwards against chair 2 Ball Shooting with Chair Player dribbles two balls then passes to partner who puts the balls in the chair one at a time. Player sprints to the chair shoots the first and takes the other off the dribble with a pullup J. 2 Ball Motion Drills A. Ball Screen Player 1 comes off ballscreen set by player 2, 1 passes to 2 once ball, pop, or slip, 1 then takes the shot.

8 B. Pressure Release (two ball) Flash High Post Player 1 has two balls. Player 2 flashes to the high post. Player 1 passes to Player 2 for a shot, then takes his shot. Dribble Back Door - Player 1 dribbles at Player 2 who backdoor cuts to basket for a finish. Player 1 then dribbles 2 nd ball to wing for a 3 pt shot. OPTIONS 1. quick spin 2. jab open up for shot 3. jab open up drive C. Games 3 vs 3 vs 3 ½ Court 1. Offense vs Defense 3 Dribble Limit 2. Make it Take it 3. If you are scored on you are off the court, new defense comes in. 4. Must check every change of possession with coach. 5. Must stay in same sets on every start

9 1 vs 1 Chaser Offense starts at a cone. Defense starts at another cone. Play begins when offense passes to coach. Offense has 1 dribble. (use cone or chair for screener or player) IV. Passing and Catching A. Team Passing and Catching Interchange Players begin in four lines on the baseline. Balls start on the inside lines. When the inside players pass to the outside players moving up the court, they cross over to receive a pass from the other side line player. No drops and no more than 4 passes. Transition into 2 vs 2.

10 4 Square Pivot Passing Players are in four lines at the corners of the ½ court. They then dribble hard and quick to the middle of the top of the key pivot all the same way than pass to the line in front of them. Passers follow their pass and get in the back of the line. 2 Ball Partner Don t Walk Drill Players pair up. They dribble to the right or left. Their partner must cut same direction keeping 15 feet spacing. Player makes and air pass and then pivot bounce pass to their partner, MAKING SURE THEY DON T WALK.
