2 EXPLORE 21c MUSEUM HOTEL LEXINGTON 21c Lexington brings 7,000 square feet of exhibition, meeting and event space to downtown Lexington. A multi-venue museum, each 21c property features contemporary art exhibition space open free of charge to the public, combined with a boutique hotel and chef-driven restaurant. 21c presents a range of arts programming curated by Museum Director, Alice Gray Stites, including solo and group exhibitions that reflect the global nature of art today, as well as site-specific, commissioned installations, and a variety of cultural events. The organization collaborates on arts initiatives with artists and organizations worldwide, including North Carolina Museum of Art; MASS MoCA; Contemporary Art Museum Houston; The Barnes Foundation; Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; Creative Capital Foundation; and others.

8 LOCKBOX Lockbox, the in-house restaurant at 21c Lexington, will showcase a commitment to sourcing local, high-quality ingredients around the Bluegrass region. Led by executive chef Jonathan Searle, Lockbox will use thoughtful yet simple preparations and cooking techniques in a contemporary brasserie setting. Designed by Deborah Berke Partners, the Lockbox space will highlight historic features like original marble floors, decorative plaster details and large windows. Communal tables in both the dining room and lounge will provide opportunities for large groups to dine together, or for individual guests to meet new people while they dine. The original vault feature, The Safe, will be used for private dining and will seat 12. The communal table just outside The Safe will seat 14 and is serviced by a separate bar, making intimate events a breeze. Lockbox will provide catering and beverage service for all events at 21c Lexington and will work with you to create custom menus to ensure every detail of your event is perfect.

9 FAYETTE NATIONAL BUILDING HISTORY 21c Lexington is housed in the Fayette National Bank building, located in the Downtown Lexington Historic District. The 15-story building was originally designed by New York-based architects McKim, Mead and White, famous for the Brooklyn Museum and Pennsylvania Station. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Fayette National Building represents the Beaux Arts International style of architecture, drawing inspiration from Neoclassical and Greek Revival design. The Main Street building originally housed the First National Bank & Trust Co., and the property continued to be used as a bank into modern times. The National Register Nomination states that, collectively, the nominated property is an excellent representation of the city of Lexington s banking history from the time of its construction as the city s first skyscraper, signaling the solidity and progress of the Fayette National Bank in the early 1900s. The Fayette National Building, with its superlative height and impressive mix of architectural details, was designed to mirror Lexington s rich banking history when the city was at the center of Kentucky s growing agricultural economy. 21c LEXINGTON DESIGN The design team led by New York-based architects Deborah Berke Partners, has embraced the building s original features to create a space where contemporary and historic meet and contrast. The historic Beaux Arts International-inspired building with Ionic Order exterior columns, marbled walls, Tennessee Pink marble flooring and vaulted ceilings with ornamental plaster patterns will be restored. The property s restaurant, Lockbox, will occupy the space at the corner of Main and Upper Street, taking advantage of the large arched windows and historic vault that were part of the original bank.

10 ABOUT 21c MUSEUM HOTELS Founders Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson are the creative force behind 21c Museum Hotels. They first conceived 21c, in part, as a community restoration project aimed at revitalizing Louisville s cultural center. It would be simultaneously a cultural institution and a social one, but equally important to Brown and Wilson was its viability as a business. The fourth 21c opened in March 2015 in Durham, North Carolina.
