All updates to this document will be noted below. Version 0.9 This version has base file management tools through a browser based interface. Preface: This document is the user s manual for the Web Based File Manager offered by AIT to all Linux web hosting customers. This application can be installed for all domains on a fully managed web hosting account through the SMT. Target Audience: AIT Customers

3 Page 3 of 12 Installation To install File Manager through the SMT 4.1 for Linux, login to the SMT/cpanel. Once logged in, the user will see something like Figure 1-1 below. Figure 1-1 The user should click on Web Services, then Add. The user will see an interface similar to Figure 1-2 below.

Domain Name Select the domain name on the Linux virtual server that should be used for the file manager. User Name Input a username for the file manager. This username will be the only user that will be able to access the file manager through a browser. The username must be between 3 and 8 characters. Password Input a password. This password must be between 6 and 8 characters. Verify Password Re-input the password from above. Disk Usage Quota This is the file size limit that the user will impose on the file manager. In other words, no more than X amount of data can be uploaded into the file manager. This conserves disk space on a virtual server, whether shared or dedicated. This limit is listed in mega bytes. (i.e. 30 is 30 MB of space allocated to this installation). Upon submission of the form, the user should see the confirmation screen, like what is displayed below in Figure 1-4.

6 Page 6 of 12 Figure 1-4 General Info File Manager can be used by customers that do not wish to use FTP, or are not comfortable with it. This system is also best used for AIT Resellers who wish to give their customers access to upload their own data, without providing them FTP access. The benefits of doing this are that the file manager will maintain the amount of data that has been uploaded to a directory. Thus, when resellers provide a customer with a specific amount of disk space for their plan, they have the ability to limit them at this disk usage amount. Permissions for files can be viewed, but not altered. If the permissions are not visible in the file listing, then simply click the + button, located between sections 1 and 3. Logging In After file manager is installed, the URL to access it is cwfm stands for Comet Web Force Manager. The path for the installation is /ww/htdocs/cwfm or /www/htdocs/virtualhost/cwfm dependant upon the domain selected during installation. The username and password that were used at installation time will be used to login to the File Manager. Once you are logged in, you will see the default page, with the root DIR for whichever user is logged in:

7 Page 7 of 12 Figure 3-1 As you can see, the File Manager is basically split into 4 main sections. The most important section contains the Main Menu. On the left is the Directory Menu, on the top is the User Menu and the bottom contains the File/Directory Information Menu. Each section is described below. Main Menu This menu is found in the middle screen. An example of this screen is listed in Figure 4-1 below. Figure 4-1 The category File reveals the sub-category menu shown in Figure 4-2 below. Delete, Rename, Open, and New are self-explanatory. For all of these except new, you must have the file highlighted first. To highlight a file, simply single click on the file name. Figure 4-2 Display and Raw View perform the same action. They display the file contents. In this case, the.htaccess file would display that is listed in Figure 4-3 below.

8 Page 8 of 12 Figure 4-3 The category Edit reveals the sub-category menu shown in Figure 4-4 below. For most users, these options will be simple to understand. Cut, will cut out a file from the current location and put it on the virtual clipboard of the application. The copy function will take a copy of the file to the virtual clipboard. The application will assume that if you want to paste the item cut or copied into a new location. Figure 4-4 The category View reveals the sub-category menu shown in Figure 4-5 below. Large Icons allows you to view files as icons, as opposed to detailed listing. Figure 4-5 Figure 4-6 below shows an example of using large icons.

9 Page 9 of 12 Figure 4-6 The category Directory shows the sub-category menu. Figure 4-7 below shows the options in the menu. The first four options are not usable in this version. The others relate back to the Edit menu listed above. Figure 4-7 The category Transfer reveals the sub-category menu listed below in Figure 4-8. To accomplish either function, simply highlight the file, and click Download (or Upload). Figure 4-8 The screen below will appear (Figure 4-9). The user can either enter the path desired, or browse for it.

10 Page 10 of 12 Figure 4-9 The category Multi Select option is a little different. It will not reveal another menu, but rather simply highlight itself. You will be able to highlight multiple files and perform actions that are listed in other menus. When Multi select is pressed, the menu will look like what is listed below in Figure Figure 4-10 Below is an example of how you can select multiple files using the Multi select option. Figure 4-11 below gives an example of the screen that will be displayed. Items in gray have been selected.

11 Page 11 of 12 Figure 4-11 File Listing Inside the main menu, the most used area will be the file listing. Each file, or sub directory, will be displayed in the main portion of the File Manager. Across the top of the File Listing, the user will see the following column headings. Name: The name of the file. Size: This is the size of the file in bytes. Type: Base type of file. There are some associated file extensions, such as.htm or.html, that have specific icons. Attributes: These are the Unix file permissions (readable, writable, executable) for each file. Time: This is the time and date the file was created or last modified. Whatever the most recent date is. Each of the items above can be used to sort the displayed directory and file names. Figure 4-12 below shows an example of the sorting by Name.

12 Page 12 of 12 Figure 4-12 Directory Menu This menu is listed on the left hand side of the screen and displays all the directories that are in the root of the web server. The + symbol next to each directory tells the user that there are more directories inside of this directory. If not symbol is displayed, then only files are contained in that directory. The icon brings you back to root directory from wherever you are in the menu system. User Menu The user menu is located at the top of the screen and contains the following information: Username logged in. Options menu. Logout option. The Options menu is not used in this version of the Web Based File Manager. File/Directory Information Menu This menu is listed at the bottom of all screens and shows the following attributes: Objects: Number of objects in each directory (objects are defined as directories or files). Size: Size of the directory being viewed. Selected: The number of files that selected at the current time. Selected Size: The combined size, in bytes, of the selected files.
