Breast, lung, colorectum and prostate were the commonest cancer sites, which accounted for 54% of all cancers. The commonest cancers were prostate cancer and breast cancer for males and females, respectively. Historically, UK lagged behind many other European countries and USA in cancer prevention and control. In order to change this situation, the UK government issued and implemented a series of plans for improving cancer services. Due to the great efforts made on cancer treatment and prevention, a great progress had been achieved in cancer prevention and control in UK.
