2 PROGRESS INDICATORS Formerly known as impact indicators, progress indicators are intended to track progress of the strategic objectives (SO) of The Strategy SO1 To improve the living conditions of affected populations SO2 To improve the condition of ecosystems SO3 To generate global benefits through effective implementation of UNCCD SO4 To mobilize resources to support implementation of the Convention through building effective partnerships between national and international actors

3 OBJECTIVES OF THE PRESENTATION Introducing the new reporting requirements for SO 1, 2 and 3 Helping NFPs and reporting officers to familiarize early enough with the main elements of the new reporting template Gathering a preliminary feedback from Parties on the new reporting template

5 COP11 - MAIN INNOVATIONS (decision 22) Broader use of readily available global data sources: Reporting is only required for those indicators for which standardized global datasets that can be disaggregated to the subnational level exist (para 7) The secretariat is requested to provide affected country Parties with national estimates of each respective metric(s)/prox(y)(ies) of the progress indicators based on available data sources (para 8) Parties are urged to subsequently verify or replace these national estimates using data sourced/computed nationally/locally (para 8) Let s look at an example

10 COP11 - MAIN INNOVATIONS (decision 22) Parties can complement the six common progress indicators with quantitative/qualitative nationally relevant indicators based on existing national and local databases The selection and reporting of nationally/locally relevant indicators should be linked to the NAP alignment process

12 AFFECTED AREAS For the purpose of reporting on progress indicators affected Parties are required to delineate affected areas according to the text of the Convention (decision 22/COP11) Default data which will be included in the reporting template refer to arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid classes of the UNEP aridity index ( Parties are free to replace default data with data sourced/computed nationally/locally
