5 COURSE DESCRIPTIONS AND OBJECTIVES All courses offered by the Digital Professional Institute are built around our philosophy of applied and project-based learning. Each course has a final project, which will be evaluated. Information regarding completion requirements can found under the section Academic Policies. FOUNDATIONS OF DIGITAL MARKETING Part-time (36 Hours/12 weeks) The Foundations of Digital Marketing course equips participants with practical skills they can put to immediate use in building, improving, and executing Digital Marketing campaigns for companies. Participants will learn to leverage a range of strategies and tools to engage customers and generate leads including online advertising (SEM and Digital Display), organic search (SEO), social media, , and mobile marketing. The course will also cover industry best practices for managing Digital Marketing efforts including monitoring, optimization, and automation. As part of this course, participants will develop a Digital Marketing campaign plan for a company or project, from defining goals and planning a strategy to identifying Key Performance Indicators. This course is available in both on-ground and online modality. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course you will be able to: Create an integrated digital marketing plan for a variety of organizations, utilizing different channels and mediums to reach organization goals Develop and implement processes and industry-leading tools for teams to effectively execute and manage digital marketing campaigns within an organization Execute different components of a digital marketing campaign across various channels to reach potential customers, including organic (SEO) and paid search (SEM), social media, and Identify the Key Performance Indicators and utilize analytics to track and measure digital marketing effectiveness and Return on Investment (ROI) Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are provided with a Certificate of Completion. In this hands-on comprehensive course, participants will learn to implement proven technologies for connecting with and meaningfully engaging online communities across a variety of social media platforms. Investigating case studies, students will learn to implement best practices for successful corporate community management, from strategy and legal considerations to technical implementation and ROI measurement. As part of this course, participants will design a social media campaign for an organization/topic of their choice, practicing the skills covered in class to plan social media properties, engage customers, and meet strategic goals. This course is available in both on-ground and online modality. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course you will be able to: Develop a Social Media plan for a brand or topic that aligns with the overall objectives of the company/organization Set measurement criteria, such as Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Return on Investment (ROI), to evaluate the success of social efforts Utilize best practices to create effective company or brand pages and accounts on popular social media channels Design, execute, and manage social media campaigns across a variety of online channels Identify social media tactics to increase customer engagement, goals fulfillment, or mitigate threats Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are provided with a Certificate of Completion. This track trains participants in the entire development journey, from idea conception to releasing the app to the market. Participants are trained in utilizing industry-standard tools and frameworks such as Xcode, Cocoa Touch, UIKit and UIFoundation, Git, and more. The track trains students in the fundamentals of programming with Swift and Objective-C. The track places special emphasis on a hands-on approach, including extensive lab exercises that are carefully designed to impart the relevant skills. The track is comprised of 3 courses: Swift Coding Fundamentals ios App Development ios App Project Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course you will be able to: Take an ios mobile project from conception to completion using the common ios controls, views, and viewcontrollers. Design, layout, code, and debug ios applications. Utilize major ios development frameworks, including Cocoa Touch, Core Services, and Core OS Code in Objective-C and Swift Students will understand the advantages of the agile development methodology and will be comfortable working within it. Students will be familiar with common coding standards. 7

Participants are trained in installing, configuring, utilizing, and customizing tools to utilize some of the leading web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript and jquery, Ruby on Rails and more. 8

9 The track trains students in the fundamentals of full stack web development, with an emphasis on Ruby on Rails. The track places special emphasis on a hands-on approach, including extensive lab exercises that are carefully designed to impart the relevant skills The track is comprised of 3 courses: Ruby on Rails Coding Fundamentals Ruby on Rails Web App Development Web App Project Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course you will be able to: Demonstrate competence with Ruby and pseudocode, its purpose, and can use it effectively. Identify, design, and construct basic programming fundamentals in Ruby such as branching, looping, and assignment. Decompose a simple problem into smaller, easier-to-solve components. Identify common Ruby error messages and can trace them to specific lines within a program. Write code that empathizes and balances the needs of different "users", such as other developers, and end users. Transition their Rails applications to production utilizing Amazon Web Services and Heroku Implement RSpec and gain an understanding of the testing tool within the Rails development process. Model and code a real-world system using object-oriented Ruby code. Model and code a real-world system using a database schema. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are provided with a Certificate of Completion. 10 Week 2: Development and QA Week 3: Finalization ADMISSION POLICY For admission into any course offered by the Digital Professional Institute, the student must be 18 years of age. LICENSURE/ACCREDITATION The Digital Professional Institute is not accredited by a US Department of Education recognized accrediting body and the courses offered are non-degree and non-credit granting. The Digital Professional Institute is approved by the Division of Private Business and Vocational Schools of the Illinois Board of Higher Education. 11 Digital Professional Institute does not accept hours or credit from other institutions through transfer of credit, challenge examinations, achievement tests, or experiential learning. Courses taken at Digital Professional Institute are enhancement courses for professionals and are unlikely to count as transfer credit at another institution. FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT All On-Campus classes are taught at the campus of our affiliate institution, Tribeca Flashpoint College, located at 28 North Clark Street, 5 th Floor Chicago, IL Tribeca Flashpoint College s facilities meet ADA accessibility standards. All classrooms are equipped with desks, chairs, tables, projectors, screens, computers, monitors and related audio-visual equipment. In addition, students have access to shared learning spaces, a Library (also known as the Info Commons) and a kitchen for student use. All students must check-in with security for access to the space and campus hours for the Digital Professional Institute are in accordance with campus hours for Tribeca Flashpoint College. ACADEMIC POLICIES ATTENDANCE GRADING Students must receive approval from the Student Experience Coordinator or the class instructors for any absences. In programs with less than 45 contact hours, students are permitted 2 excused absences. In programs with more than 45 contact hours, students are permitted 3 excused absences. Students are required to make up any missed course work. Failure to secure permission for absences or attend classes may result in a withdrawal, per the Withdrawal policy. DPI, in its discretion, may allow for a greater number of excused absences. All courses are graded as either Pass (P), Fail (F) or Incomplete (I). For a student to receive a passing grade, he or she must meet all of the minimum course requirements and receive greater than a 70% on his or her final project. An incomplete may be granted at the discretion of the course instructor. A student will have 60 days from the final class to complete any outstanding course work. If the student is unable or unwilling to complete the necessary course work, the Incomplete will be changed to a Fail (F). COURSE COMPLETION Students who satisfactorily meet the minimum course requirements and receiving a passing grade will be issued a Certificate of Completion within 45 days of the end of the course. STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE HOURS Office Hours are provided to all students by appointment. 11

12 LIBRARY DPI students will have access to the campus library at Tribeca Flashpoint College, also known as the Info Commons, during campus hours. The Info Commons provides students with individual and collaborative study space for reading and completing course projects. The print, periodical, online and DVD collections help students extend their learning beyond the classroom context. Computer workstations enable access to online research resources and commonly used software products. There is wi-fi access available for laptops. Library staff is available from 8:30am to 8:30pm to provide assistance. EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE Any student enrolled in a DPI course has access to Career Services. Resources include some or all of the following: Resume review Workshops, panels and other relevant events Interviewing best practices and prep Employer visits (as scheduled) Internal alumni networking The Digital Professional cannot and does not guarantee employment or salary. STUDENT RECORDS Student records are kept in a locked, fireproof safe and are maintained on campus for a minimum of seven years. Student transcripts are maintained permanently. GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE Digital Professional Institute encourages students to bring all complaints or grievances to its attention. Many questions and concerns that students have can be resolved simply through discussion. A student may present a grievance directly to the Student Experience Coordinator or the Director of Program Development. Digital Professional Institute will investigate all complaints and grievances fully and promptly. A grievance is defined as a student s written expression of dissatisfaction concerning conditions of enrollment or treatment by instructors, other students, or DPI staff. Grievances may include misapplication of institution policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, or unfair treatment, such as coercion, reprisal, or intimidation by an instructor or other employee. Digital Professional Institute shall resolve student complaints promptly and fairly and shall not subject a student to punitive action because of grievances filed with DPI. DPI shall maintain a written record of its handling of all student complaints. The Student Grievance Committee is comprised of DPI s Executive Director, Director of Program Development and/or relevant staff or faculty to the situation. The Committee meets with all respective parties to reach an amiable and resolute decision. All parties have equal voice in the discussion with the hope of resolving any dispute through constructive discourse. Additionally, students can report complaints or grievances through our Ethics Hotline accessible at operated by a company independent from DPI and operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 13 In addition, complaints against the Digital Professional Institute may be registered with: Illinois Board of Higher Education, PBVS Division 1 N. Old State Capitol Plaza, Suite 333 Springfield, IL CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWAL, AND REFUND POLICY CANCELLATION The student has the right to cancel the initial enrollment agreement, without penalty or obligation, until 9:00AM of the first business day following the first class session. Cancellation is effective when the student provides a written notice of cancellation, either delivered through mail to the address on the enrollment agreement, or by to the address on the enrollment agreement. If the enrollment agreement is cancelled, the student will be refunded any money paid, less the nonrefundable registration fee and course materials cost specified under the section Tuition and Fees, within 30 days after the notice of cancellation is received. If the right to cancel is not given to any prospective student at the time the agreement is signed, then the student has the right to cancel the agreement at any time and receive a refund on all monies paid to date, less the non-refundable registration fee and course materials cost specified under the section Tuition and Fees, within 30 days of cancellation. Cancellation should be submitted to the authorized official of the school in writing. WITHDRAWAL Students may withdraw from a course at any time after the cancellation period as described in the section Cancellation and refunds are determined in accordance with the Refund Policy. For purposes of the Refund Policy, the following actions constitute a withdrawal: The student submits written notification, either through mail or through , of the student s withdrawal. The failure of the student to submit promptly his or her notification may delay a refund of tuition to the student pursuant to state laws. The student s enrollment is terminated by the Digital Professional Institute for failure to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution; absences in excess of the minimum set forth by the Digital Professional Institute; and/or failure to meet financial obligations to the institution. The student has failed to attend class for 4 or more meetings without prior approval. The official termination date of enrollment shall be the student s last day in class. TUTION REFUND POLICY All refunds will be paid within 30 days of withdrawal or cancellation. Refunds will be less the nonrefundable registration fee and course materials cost specified under the section Tuition and Fees. On-Campus and Online Courses Less Than Forty-Five (45) Contact Hours 13

14 The student has the right to cancel the initial enrollment agreement, without penalty or obligation, until 9:00AM of the first business day following the first class session. If the enrollment agreement is cancelled, the student will be refunded any tuition paid. If the student withdraws from the course following the Cancellation period, the student will not be refunded any of the course costs. On-Campus and Online Courses Greater Than Forty-Five (45) Contact Hours The student has the right to cancel the initial enrollment agreement, without penalty or obligation, until 9:00AM of the first business day following the first class session. If the enrollment agreement is cancelled, the student will be refunded any tuition paid. In addition, if the student attends less than 5% of the course as measured by hours in the classroom, the student will be refunded any tuition paid. If the student withdraws after attending between 5% and 60% of the course, the refund will be prorated based on the amount of class attended. If the student withdraws after attending more than 60% of the course, the student will not be refunded any of the course costs. 14

15 TUITION AND FEES All courses have a non-refundable Registration Fee. Tuition is due prior to the first class. Tuition payment plans are also available. For information on payment plans, the student can contact the Enrollment Director.
