1 English and Mathematics Strategy 1. Mission To deliver programmes of study that provide our young students with the knowledge, practical and transferable skills to progress to further study, Higher and Employment. 2. Vision To ensure that all young people engaged by the College progress to a positive destination 3. Current Situation North Lindsey College has approximately year old students on a range of vocational and academic programmes ranging from entry level to level 3. There are an additional on vocational programmes through links with feeder schools. This provision covers most Sector Skills Areas and there are good progression routes to Higher and Apprenticeships. Most curriculum areas are self-assessed as good or better, however a minority of areas are in need to improvement. 4. External Context The introduction of the study programme will change the curriculum model within the further education sector. One of the main objectives is to raise standards in post 16 English and Mathematics and enable students without a GCSE grade C and above to work towards achievement of these subjects. The increase expectations for tutors to deliver English and Mathematics and support embedding in vocational areas will impact on the training and development requirements for staff. 5. Strategic Priorities 5.1 Communication, Engagement and Recruitment To ensure that students are fully engaged and motivated to achieve the best possible grades in both Maths and English. 5.2 Academic Portfolio To offer a range of maths and English qualifications that provide clear and coherent pathways to students achieving GCSE grade C. 5.3 Teaching, Learning and Assessment To ensure that the delivery of Maths and English are embedded and contextualised within each vocational area. 5.4 Continuous Improvement To ensure that College wide co-ordination of English and Maths enables high standards to be maintained across the College.
2 5.5 Human Resources To recruit and develop staff who are qualified and confident to fully participate in the teaching and assessment of English and Maths. 5.6 Infrastructure, Property and Facilities To provide dedicated rooms for the delivery of Maths and English within curriculum areas. 5.7 Partnerships and Collaborations To work with schools to develop a coherent approach to the delivery of Maths and English that ensure the best possible outcome for our students. 5.8 Information Technologies To ensure that initial assessment tools and appropriate resources are available across the College to improve the delivery and assessment of Maths and English. 6. Financial Solvency and Sustainability 7. Key Results 7.1 Increased numbers of students achieved English and Mathematics GCSE Grade C-A*. 7.2 Increased number of students receive a positive learning experience in English and Mathematics and develop appropriate skills to enable progression to further study or employment. 8. Increased ownership of E&M To recruit and develop staff who are qualified and confident to fully participate in the teaching and assessment of English and Maths To provide dedicated rooms for the delivery of Maths and English within curriculum areas To work with schools to develop a coherent approach to the delivery of Maths and English that ensure the best possible outcome for our students across College. Introduce traineeship phase 1 & 2 to develop new staff. Review skills and qualifications of existing staff. Recruit new staff to fill vacancies. Review role of Success Centre team in delivery model. Establish base room for E&M in curriculum areas. Provide physical resources to support delivery. Base rooms to include ICT resources to support joined delivery models. Identify partnerships and CPD in schools to support quality delivery of E&M. Explore joint delivery models. Use of AoC curriculum development fund to underpin partnership CPD. Regional networking with other colleges to develop quality approach and share specialist delivery. Robust system in place to track attendance and progress. Appropriate level of staff in place to deliver strategy. On-going training for all staff to integrate and embed E&M in areas. English and Mathematics base rooms in all curriculum areas. Use of E-learning, Moodle, ICT. Coherent delivery model to E&M. Best practice identified and improvement in quality of T, L & A. AoC curriculum development fund to provide CPD for staff. Maths Campus & Projects Strategy & Information Initial Partnerships identified AoC curriculum development fund
