2 Aims and Objectives Our school uniform policy is based on the notion that a school uniform promotes a sense of pride in the school, looks smart and is practical and makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance. Uniform supplier Our uniform is supplied by Perry Uniform ( ). As a web-based supplier, Perry Uniform offers parents the convenience of shopping when they choose and from wherever they are. Perry Uniform offer a name taping service to parents, and it is highly recommended by the school that parents take up this offer. It is vital that all uniform is labelled, as young children often struggle to recognise their own articles of uniform. This includes all shoes, socks, outerwear and accessories. If an article of uniform is mislaid, it may well have gone home in another child s bag or placed in our lost property box, located in the school office. Woven sew on name tapes and adhesive shoe labels can also be obtained directly from Perry Uniform s website. Whilst staff take every opportunity to ensure that pupils are dressed in their own school uniform, it is ultimately the parents responsibility to check their uniform at the end of the school day. From time to time mistakes do happen and children leave in uniform belonging to another child. Should this happen, please return such garments to the child s class teacher and we will ensure it makes it way back to the rightful owner. When wearing the school uniform, boys and girls should wear navy dress shoes and predominately white trainers as part of their PE uniform. Suggested school shoe brands are; Start Rite, Clarks, Geox and Ecco. School Uniform Changeover Periods As the weather is very unpredictable the School does take seasonal changes into account during the transition periods between Winter and Summer Uniform. Generally, Winter uniform is acceptable from the start of school in September through to the start of the Summer Term. Summer uniform may be worn from the start of Summer Term through to half term in October. The School Blazer may be worn throughout the school year. The School will make an reminder announcement to parents regarding the change over dates of uniform at the appropriate time in the year. When is a uniform required? Children are required to wear the full uniform to school at all times for pupils in Reception to Year 6. All pupils must wear the uniform when representing the school at events off school property. Children are at all times ambassadors for the school, and never more so than when larger groups are on school trips. The children should wear the uniform with pride, as it identifies them as pupils of Wandsworth Prep School. Finally, pupils should wear the PE uniform and/or designated PE team sports kit when they are representing Wandsworth Prep School at inter-school sporting events. Specific details are provided to parents at the start of each term about when PE Uniform is required with the curriculum timetable. What about jewellery and make-up? Pupils with pierced ears may wear a single stud-earring or a pair of studearrings to school. For safety reasons, children must not wear rings or necklaces to school. Watches are acceptable, however they must be removed prior to playing sport and during PE lessons. Long hair is to be tied back out of the face, and boys hair is to be kept at an acceptable length. Children must not wear make-up or nail polish. The Role of Parents We ask all parents who send their children to Wandsworth Preparatory School to support the school uniform policy. We believe that parents have a duty to send their children correctly dressed and ready for work. One of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform, and that it is clean and in good repair. What if a pupil does not wear a uniform? The Headteacher will decide what is to be done if a pupil s appearance is judged to be inappropriate. If any pupil arrives at school dressed inappropriately, they will either be asked to change what they are wearing or be given a shared-use uniform to wear for the rest of day.

5 The Headteacher is responsible for enforcing the Wandsworth Prep School uniform policy and has the full support of Bellevue Education s Education Committee. School Uniform Policy and the role Bellevue Education If any parent would like the school to modify the uniform policy, they should first speak to the Headteacher. The school welcomes children from all backgrounds and faith communities. The School s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) implements the school uniform policy. It works with the PTA to ensure that the policy is implemented fairly and with sensitivity. It is the responsibility of the SLT to ensure that the school uniform meets all regulations concerning equal opportunities. The SLT ensures that the school uniform policy helps children to dress sensibly, in clothing that is hard wearing, safe and practical.
