1 Drawing and Painting Courses Across the UH System (Revised May 3, 2006) Campus Course Title Description and Prerequisites HAW ART 108 Elem Studio: Drawing & Painting studio with emphasis on materials and techniques. Painting MAU ART 108 Elem Studio: Drawing & Painting Provides studio experience in drawing and painting mainly for nonmajors. Involves lectures and projects. Meets the UH Manoa Arts & Science core requirement but not Art major Elec Low WIN ART 108 Elem Studio: Drawing & Painting requirement. This is an introductory studio experience focusing on basic drawing, color, and acrylic painting. The course is appropriate for all students, from beginner to more advanced artist. This course will emphasize appreciation of students creativity through art processes, while developing a virtual art language. Repeatable once for a total of 6 credits that may be applied to the AA degree. KAP ART 109 Understanding Image in Motion PreReq: Qualification for ENG 100 or consent of instructor. Repeatable once for a max of 6 credits. Art 109 is a lecture survey course that explores the art of the moving image, both in film and video. It includes the history of moving images, national and international styles, various genres (theatrical features, documentaries, animation, experimental, fine art, etc). It examines aesthetic issues of the moving image, editing, structure, cinematography, lighting and drama. It explains the techniques employed to meet those aesthetic goals. Every class session includes a lecture introduction and a screening of some filmic works. UHH ART 109 Intro to Drawing & Painting for Non-Majors Studio experience for non-majors. Emphasis on formal concepts in drawing & painting. The course incorporates various drawing & painting media into exercises, projects, and lectures to develop personal expression. UHM ART 109 Understanding Image in Motion (Listed under Photography) Creative aspects of film and video. Understanding forms, aesthetics, and techniques of the moving image; feature and short works (animation, documentary, and experimental). A-F only. WIN ART 113 Intro to Drawing Rec Prep: ART 101 ART 113 ART 121 Art 113 is an introduction to the materials and techniques of drawing, focusing on line drawing, rendering and the use of perspective. This course will include the study of the drawings of old and modern masters. Repeatable once for a total of 6 credits. UHM ART 113 Intro to Drawing (Listed under Art Core Courses) ART 121 Descriptive, expressive, and formal aspects of visual language through drawing practice. LEE ART 113D Intro to Computer Drawing An introductory course for students who are interested in developing communication skills in the area of two -dimensional drawing as it relates to computer based imaging. Fundamental drawing concepts, creative problem solving techniques and basic design principles will be covered. Material covered in this course may be useful to any area of study where visual enhancement may apply. This includes ICS and business. KAP ART 115 Introduction to Design Art 115 focuses on elements of form and principles of design with an ART 123 emphasis on two-dimensional design. LEE ART 115 Introduction to Design-2D Rec Prep: ART 101. ART 123 A foundation course in the two-dimensional design aspect of the visual arts. The emphasis is on basic concepts, elements and principles of organization as well as their application and manipulation on problem solving situations. MAU ART 115 Introduction to Design Introduces the theory and practice of composing and arranging twodimensional ART 123 forms in black, white, and color through manipulation of the basic elements and their interrelationships. WIN ART 115 Introduction to Design Rec Prep: ART 101. ART 123 Art 115 is an introductory course which focuses on the basic design concepts, elements and principles of art.
