Degree The Art program provides students with a strong foundation in the use of traditional and digital photographic technologies.the course of study bridges traditional black-and-white photography, digital photography, alternative processes, lighting, video, histy of photography and contempary trends. Classes emphasize the technical, creative image making, critical analysis, and visual communication skills needed to prepare f transfer to four-year institutions employment in the field. All Art classes transfer to either the UC CSU systems. The Cabrillo College Ce Competencies (with an emphasis in the study of Art ): 1. Surveys diverse methods f the creation of photographic imagery including histical, traditional B&W, alternative, experimental, and digital processes through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Overviews photographic genres and introduces trends in histical and contempary photographic image making. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. Transfer Credit: Transfers to CSU; UC, pending review. AP 6 Introduction to Digital Introduces basic digital photography skills: camera operation and exposure controls; elementary software image quality adjustment techniques; printing and digital output; composition; visual communication. Course wk includes lecture, demonstration, critique, and computer labaty wk. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 9A Beginning Introduces the basic principles, practice, and aesthetics of black and white photography including camera operation, film processing, darkroom based printing, print presentation, composition, and visual communication. Course includes lecture, demonstration, critique, darkroom labaty wk, and field studies. AP 9B Intermediate Prerequisite: AP 9A equivalent skills. Continues black and white photography practices from AP 9A with a focus on fiber-base paper printing, refined exposure methods, and thematic projects. Introduces medium fmat photography, basic Zone System concepts, and post-processing manipulation of prints and negatives. Activities include lecture, demonstration, critique, darkroom labaty wk, and field studies. Materials fee may apply. Art Courses 2

3 AP 9C Advanced Prerequisite: AP 9B equivalent skills. Hybrid Requisite: Completion of concurrent enrollment in ART 51L. Recommended Preparation: AP 28; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Continues the study of black and white photography from AP 9B with a focus on refining printing techniques and Zone System practices, thematic projects, and ptfolio development. Activities include lecture, demonstration, critique, darkroom labaty wk, and field studies. AP 14 Introduction to Video Art Introduces video art through hands-on production, analysis of video art wk, and explation of the evolution of video as an art fm. Provides introducty training in digital video and audio production and digital post-production techniques while examining fmal, conceptual, social, and structural strategies of video art practice. Taught on Macintosh computers. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 15 Histy of Surveys the histy of photography from its igins to the advent of the digital age in the 20th Century. Examines the practice of photography as an art fm and as a fm of visual communication in histical, socio-political and cultural contexts. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. Materials fee may apply. AP 25 and Visual Communication Recommended Preparation: Completion of concurrent enrollment in ART 50L; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Provides an overview of visual principles f creating effective photographic images and methods f analyzing and interpreting photographic imagery. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 28 Medium and Large Fmat Prerequisite: AP 9A equivalent skills. Recommended Preparation: AP 9B and AP 46A equivalent skills; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Introduces techniques and aesthetics of medium and large fmat photography through hands-on training with medium fmat camera systems and 4X5 view cameras. Includes specialized exposure, processing and printing techniques f B&W sheet and roll film, 4X5 instant materials, and digital imaging options. AP 35, New Media and Social Change Examines the impact of new technologies and photography on culture, and analyzes the global social change achieved by current and histical movements in photography. Investigates how photography in new media influences current perceptions of race, gender, religion, sexual ientation, ethnicity and cultural identity. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. Materials fee may apply. AP 40A-Z Studies in Investigates special areas of interest in. The special area (i.e. field studies, wkshops in specific photographic techniques, etc.) will be announced and described in the Schedule of Classes. May be offered in a Distance- Learning Fmat. AP 42 Alternative Photographic Processes I Prerequisite: AP 9A equivalent skills. Recommended Preparation: AP 46A and AP 9B AP 28 equivalent skills; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Surveys creative photographic image making possibilities utilizing histical, contempary, and non-traditional applications of silver-based and non-silver photographic processes. Includes mixed media combinations and digital imaging techniques. 3

4 AP 45 Contempary Trends in Examines the images of contempary photographers wldwide to illustrate the maj themes and concepts in photography from 1945 to the present. Includes visual presentations of images, discussions and gallery field trips designed to enhance the student's personal vision and promote creative visual thinking. No lab time required. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 46A Digital I Prerequisite: AP 6 AP 9A equivalent skills and CS 1L DM 1 equivalent skills. Teaches tools and techniques f creating photographic images with Adobe Photoshop including intermediate camera skills, image capture, impt, manipulation, printing, and digital output. Introduces menus and tools, selection controls, retouching, global and selective image adjustments, and filter basics. Taught on Macintosh; adaptable to Windows. May be offered in a Distance- Learning Fmat. AP 46B Digital II Prerequisite: AP 46A equivalent skills. Hybrid Requisite: Completion of concurrent enrollment in ART 51L. Continues digital photography studies from AP 46A with a focus on integrating content and design principles with software techniques f fine art and commercial applications. Introduces compositing, filters, and effects. Taught on Macintosh; Adaptable to Windows. Students may use either film digital cameras. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 46C Digital III Prerequisite: AP 46B equivalent skills. Hybrid Requisite: Completion of concurrent enrollment in ART 51L. Continues the study of digital photography from AP 46B with a focus on expanding creative expression and refining technical skill.taught on Macintosh; Adaptable to Windows. Students may use either film digital cameras. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. AP 47 Lighting f I Prerequisite: AP 9A AP 46A equivalent skills. Recommended Preparation: AP 9B AP 28 equivalent skills; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Introduces fine art and commercial applications of studio lighting equipment f film and digital photography. Covers basic lighting principles and techniques f lighting, tabletop setups, and larger sets. AP 52 Alternative Photographic Processes II Prerequisite: AP 9B and AP 42 equivalent skills. Hybrid Requisite: Completion of concurrent enrollment in ART 51L. Recommended Preparation: AP 15 and AP 28 AP 46A equivalent skills; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Teaches expressive image making through in-depth investigations of selected histical, contempary, experimental, non-traditional, and lensless photographic processes. Emphasizes hands-on discovery, conceptual and technical refinements, ptfolio building, and presentation skills. AP 54 Introduction to Digital Art Introduces fundamental concepts, practices, and theies of digital art production. Topics include integration of traditional design, col, and compositional principles with contempary digital tools. AP 55 The Moving Image: Experimental Film, Video, and New Media Art Recommended Preparation: ART 50L; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Surveys the evolution of the moving image in experimental film, video art, and new media art from the 19th century to current times. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. 4

Covers expressive and interpretive lighting f both fine art and commercial photography utilizing digital cameras and/ medium and large fmat film cameras.
