Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm A 45 million pound investment for East Riding of Yorkshire
Construction of Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm A 45 million investment for East Riding of Yorkshire Facts and figures The wind farm comprises 16 wind turbines, an onsite substation and 6.3km of underground cables that link the wind farm to the local electricity distribution network The height of the turbine is metres (to the tip of the blades at their highest point) Each wind turbine weighs 290 tonnes The blades measure 45 metres each Each turbine is rated at 2.05 megawatts. The wind farm s total capacity is 32.8MW. The wind farm will generate enough clean electricity to meet the average annual needs of some 18,200 UK homes 1 The wind farm became fully operational in August 2014 Construction of Goole Fields 1 commenced in January All 16 turbines were in place and fully operation in August Long term energy output predictions are based on operational data analysis, where sufficient information is available, or estimated using measured wind speed data. The energy capture and equivalent homes or emission savings figures may change as more operational information is gathered. Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4500 kwh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household figures from the UK Statistics Authority.

A major construction project Local community About Goole Fields Wind Farm In September 2012, RWE Innogy UK recieved planning permission from East Riding of Yorkshire Council to build a wind farm on a section of land south of the A161, south east of the town of Goole. Councillors on the planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the Goole Fields Wind Farm. Construction started in January 2012 with the construction of the 6.3km kilometres of access tracks. The turbine foundations were then built progressively, with each base being built on top of a ring of concrete piles which are typically 20 metres deep. With 40% of Europe s total wind resource, Britain is well placed to reap the benefits of one of the cheapest and most advanced renewable energy sources. The wind industry is creating careers and investment opportunities and RWE Innogy UK is committed to maximising the opportunities the renewables sector offers local suppliers and contractors. Wherever possible, we awarded contracts to local firms, who have the appropriate skills, to carry out the work. We worked with Goole-based heavy haulage firm Collett. The turbines were transported from Goole ports in sections before being assembled onsite and lifted into place. During construction, planting and harvesting activities continued. Now that the wind farm is complete farming activities can be carried out right up to the wind turbines. Collett s heavy transport and abnormal load vehicles transported the turbine components to site from Goole Port. The last turbine was lifted into place in May Following the electrical installation and commissioning and testing, the wind farm became fully operational in August Wind farms, such as Goole Fields Wind Farm, contribute towards supplying the electricity that we all use, but in a way that avoids the emissions of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide. Wind farms are not reliant on the import of fossil fuels such as gas or oil, and so contribute towards the security of the UK s energy supply. David Collett, Managing Director at Collett, said: We are delighted to be working with RWE Innogy UK on the Goole Fields Wind Farm. We are specialists in heavy transport and marine services and have the experience and expertise to ensure the logistics of a delivery of this scale are executed on schedule. The renewables sector offers a lot of opportunities for companies in the Humber region and we are pleased that RWE Innogy UK has chosen to work with us.
Spend analysis Goole Fields Community Fund Wherever possible RWE Innogy UK used local companies. Amongst others, these included civil engineers from Hull, aggregate suppliers from Doncaster, cables from West Yorkshire and fantastic lunches from Goole. Wind farm spend The following chart shows the propotional spend of Goole Fields 1 Wind Farm. Wind turbines Electrical works Civil works Grid connection Development spend RADAR costs As part of our Goole Fields project, we have set up a Community Fund that will be used to fund local projects. The total Community Fund value is approximately 1.3 million over the 20 years The fund is to the value of approximately 64,000 a year for the operational lifetime of the project and will be index linked with inflation. The fund is open to applications from communities in the electoral wards of Snaith, Airmyn, Rawcliffe, Marshlands and Goole South. The Goole Field s fund is earmarked to support projects with educational, environmental, energy efficiency and amenity, community and charitable aims. East Riding of Yorkshire Council administer the fund and will set up a decision making panel, made up of nine self-nominated representatives who live, work or volunteer in the area of benefit. For further information contact Karen Wood at East Riding of Yorkshire Council on or by ing ruralfunding@eastriding.gov.uk
About RWE Innogy UK RWE Innogy UK is the UK subsidiary of RWE Innogy and one of the UK s leading renewable energy developers and operators. We are committed to developing and operating renewable energy projects to produce sustainable electricity. We operate 22 hydroelectric power schemes, 30 onshore wind farms and two offshore wind farms, including the UK s first major offshore wind farm, North Hoyle. Construction of RWE Innogy UK s Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant in Fife, Scotland, is now complete and the plant has entered its operational testing phase, and construction of the 576 megawatt Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, off the North Wales coast, is progressing well. From development, to construction and operation, our staff in area offices across Wales, Scotland and England work in close partnership with local communities and companies. In 2013, renewable energy sites operated by RWE Innogy UK invested over 1 million into communities across the UK. The investments made by RWE in the UK are creating substantial new job opportunities, developing the supply chain and, very importantly, helping the UK Government achieve the EU target of supplying 30% of electricity from renewables, by RWE Innogy pools the renewable energy expertise and generating plant of the RWE Group. RWE Innogy is fully committed to growth in renewable energy across Europe and the UK continues to play a significant role. RWE Innogy UK is a sister company to RWE npower, a leading UK energy company with around 5.4 million customer accounts.
