2 Promethean Technical Support Information Promethean Technical Support Option 3 (Locate the board s serial number on the side of the board before calling) Call Promethean Tech Support for any of the following reasons: - Indicator light in top left corner of the board doesn t light when USB is connected to computer - Power button on left side of board is neither green (on) OR red (off) - Pen doesn t respond when trying to write on the board - Board shows a connection to the computer (check the ActivManager icon), however pen still doesn t respond on the board - Pen and or touch calibration issues - Projector image issues (including projector remote) - General troubleshooting with hardware and software related to the computer- board connection, pen, projector, or doc camera School Technology Representative (STR) Send an or call the STR for any of the following reasons: - Computer will not power on and/or doesn t function properly - Computer cables are missing and/or need to be replaced - Additional software updates (including ActivInspire) are needed but require an Administrator password - Projector lamp needs to be replaced and/or a temporary projector is needed - General troubleshooting with the computer its settings DPS Dept of Technology Services (DoTS) Hotline: DoTs is responsible for supporting all technical issues beyond the scope of an STR. Or, if an STR is not available, call DoTs and they will do their best to support your needs. DoTs can support basic Promethean hardware and software issues but it is highly recommended that you contact Promethean Tech Support first. 2

3 ActivBoard Connections Make sure the VGA and USB cords are connected to the right side of the ActivBoard. Computer Connections Mac Connections: PC Connections: Other Controls - Volume controls (in combination with volume settings on the laptop). - ON/Standby light must be GREEN, indicating the board is powered on. 3

4 ActivPens Each ActivBoard comes with 2 teacher pens (dark grey) and 2 student pens (light grey) All ActivPens will calibrate the ActivBoard. - Pen Nib works as left mouse button - Button works as right mouse button ActivBoard Calibration Calibrating will align the pen with the cursor on the board. There are two steps: 1. Hover the ActivPen over the indicator light in the top left corner of the board. Once the board recognizes the ActivPen, the button emits a blue light. 2. Follow the directions on the board. PRM- 35 Projector Remote: Blank: to turn the image off, not the projector (no more than 15 minutes) Freeze: to freeze the current image on your computer (no more than 15 minutes) Zoom +/- : to increase/decrease the image size Menu button: for changing the image position and display mode Tips: - Turn off the projector when not in use to save lamp life - Projector does not have filter. (DO NOT use an air can to clean, only vacuum vents.) 4

5 Select Tool ActivInspire Main Toolbox Features To select objects and move on page, use the Select Tool Tools Menu Access to tools that are not in the Main Toolbox Pen Tool Highlighter Tool Works like the Pen Tool, but is translucent, going over pen and text Eraser Tool The eraser only deletes annotations (pen and highlighter) Use slider to adjust size of eraser Fill Tool Fill Tool works on shapes, text, and background Shape Tool Select Shape Tool, select shape, click and drag on page until desired size Connector Tool Connects text, objects, or images to create a graphic organizer 5

6 Insert Media Insert images, video or audio files that are saved to the computer Text Tool Click on Text Tool, click on desired location on page. Then choose text options. To edit text: Double- click on text, select, make changes Clear Tool Menu of deleting options Page Reset Resets a saved flipchart Undo Undo last action Redo Redo last action Desktop Annotate Allows for annotations on any application Desktop Tools Access to the camera, voting, calculator, on- screen keyboard and more while using other applications 6

7 Customizing Your Program Go to View Menu, Customize Commands Tab - Add/Remove tools and rearrange tools by using Move Up/Move Down Layout Tab - Customize icon size and amount of toolbox colors Settings Tab (suggested changes) - Dual Mode ActivBoards > Touch input handling - Flipchart > World Color - Tools > Default Tool Clock Other Tools Displays current time and includes countdown timer Reveal Tool Helps focus students attention on a particular part of the flipchart page Dual User The ActivBoard allows for Dual Pen input using 1 teacher ActivPen and 1 student ActivPen at the same time. To activate Dual User, select the Tools Menu, Dual User. A second toolbox will appear that only the student ActivPen will control. 7

8 ActivInspire Browsers Page Browser View all pages, reorder, or delete pages from flipchart Resource Browser Use the resource library to find all images, backgrounds, and other objects you will need for your flipchart. Tips: Use the search option to help save time Object Browser Easily see what layer all objects are on. Click and drag objects to reorder Notes Browser Type in directions for teachers and/or students for each page 8

9 ActiView Document Camera Make sure you have the driver for the ActiView: Connections - USB to the computer or side of the ActivBoard - Power cord ActiView application (Icons and Tools on desktop) Open these tools on the desktop by clicking on the flame icon. Top Row (L to R): Display Live Images, Auto Tune, Lamp, Power Second Row: Zoom, Application Icon, Brightness, Options Third Row: Annotate, Freeze, Camera settings, Revealer Bottom Row: Camera, Video, Time- lapse, Spotlight Launch ActiView Tool (within ActivInspire) To activate document camera, click on Tools, Launch ActiView 9
