3 SET UP YOUR HPL DIGITAL ACCOUNT a. Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to create an OverDrive account and log in. If you're under 13, select I am under 13 years old instead. Note: Your OverDrive account can sync your libraries, saved searches, and reading position across multiple devices. b. In the newer version OverDrive app, swipe from left to right to open the Home menu. Then, tap Add a library. In older versions of the app, tap the Books). icon (or, if you don't have this icon, go to Menu > Get a. Enter your zip code, and tap on search to find your library. 5 b. Enter your HPL library card number. Then, tap on Sign In button. HPL library card number starts with either or HPL temporary library card number will not be accepted to check out ebooks. Check Remember my login information on this device if you want your device to save the login information for next use. FEATURES OF YOUR HPL DIGITAL ACCOUNT After sign in, tap on the Account icon to view the following features: Bookshelf Holds Lists Settings My Account. 6 a. Bookshelf: You can view all digital items which you have checked out. You also can download, read, or return your digital items here. b. Holds: You can view all digital items which you have placed on hold here. You also can remove or edit the hold here. You can use Edit to change the notification address for your holds here. 7 c. Lists: You can view all digital items which you have added to the wish list here. CHECK OUT AN EPUB EBOOK a. Sign In with your HPL digital account if you did not sign in yet. Houston Public Library EPUB ebooks for Android Devices Page 6

8 b. Tap on Search icon, and then tap on Advanced Search. Then: i. Enter information of your desired ebook into appropriate fields. ii. Select EPUB ebook in the format Field. iii. Select Available Now if you want to see titles available to check out immediately. Otherwise select All Titles to view all titles. iv. Tap Search to view your search results. Note: On the cover images, available titles have a dark book icon on the top right corner, those which are checked out and require a hold have a greyed-out book icon. 9 c. When you find your desired ebook, tap on the cover image of the book. Then, tap on Borrow button. d. Tap on Download button, and then select Adobe EPUB ebook. Then, tap on Confirm & Download to check out your desired ebook. Houston Public Library EPUB ebooks for Android Devices Page 8

10 e. To view your checked out ebook, tap on the OverDrive Home button. Then, tap on Bookshelf. f. The checked out ebook will appear on the Bookshelf. Tap on the cover to start reading the ebook. Houston Public Library EPUB ebooks for Android Devices Page 9

11 READ AN EPUB EBOOK a. Tap the middle of the screen to open the reader options. Then, tap on the table of contents icon to view the table of contents of your checked out ebook. b. 13 RETURN AN EPUB EBOOK a. Tap and Hold on the cover of the ebook that you would like to return or delete. b. Tap on the Return or Delete button to return or delete your checked out ebook. c. Tap Yes to confirm. Returning a title returns the ebook to the library and also removes it from your device. Deleting a title removes the ebook from your device, but keeps it available for download from your library bookshelf until it s returned or the lending period expires.
