Road 103 (Crabapple Road), with Sheldon Gantt, Inc. the low bidder at $198,900. The only other bidder was Ohio/West Virginia Excavating Co. at $281,300. This project is funded 74% by the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) and 26% MVGT funds. This project was awarded to Sheldon Gantt and should be completed late this fall. Bids will be opened on August 12 th for construction of a new bridge and a new retaining wall on CH 4 (Colerain Pike). The new bridge, located 1.22 miles east of SR 250, will be a prestressed concrete box beam structure, 32 long and 24 wide. The retaining wall will be steel piling, placed in drilled shafts and encased in concrete, with reinforced concrete slabs placed between the piles. The total length of the wall is 450 and is located about 0.2 miles east of the bridge. The estimated cost of this project is $862,065, with OPWC funding $716,988. Ohio/West Virginia Excavating Co. is expected to begin work next week on replacing the existing bridge on Colerain Pike which is located 2.75 miles east of SR 250. The bridge will be replaced with a 16 span x 6 rise x 24 long four sided box culvert. This $91,385 contract is also funded by OPWC, with Belmont County providing 26% of the funding. Carr Concrete now has a contract to supply 6 each 33 8 long, 4 wide precast prestressed concrete box beams for a new bridge on CH 5 over Falls Run in Crescent, at a cost of $32,909. Once the beams are poured and delivered, our bridge crew will set them so that the bridge can be reopened. This bridge was closed after our annual bridge inspection this past spring. The bridge crew is now setting steel beams on the first of four small bridge replacement projects on Pultney T-300 (Pinch Run Road). They are also ready to set box beams on Richland T-276 (Brush Run Road). This bridge was also closed after the annual bridge inspection. Temporary bridges were placed at both locations. Our road crews spent most of this past month cleaning up after the heavy rainfall of June 17 th. Most of the damage was in Mead Township. Emergency Funding is being sought from OPWC to repair three embankment failures caused by these rains, two on Pipe Creek Road, and one on Willow Grove Road. 2 County Road 4 - Colerain Pike to Close County Road 4, Colerain Pike, will be closed to all traffic at a location 0.75 miles west of State Route 647 on Monday July 27, 2009 at 8:00 A.M. for a bridge replace project. The existing bridge will be removed and replaced by a concrete box culvert by Ohio West Virginia Excavating Company Website Additions Over the next few weeks several permit application documents are going to be added to the Belmont County Engineer s website. The applications will include Driveway Culvert Application, Utility Installation Application, Special Hauling Permit Application, Easement for Storm Water Application and others. These will be available using a hyperlink called Permit Applications. Page 2

4 Ohio Utility Protection Service The Ohio Utility Protection Service continues to set records with the amount of call request. On July 14 of this year, 5,749 calls were received state wide. The previous record was May 9, 2005 with 5,560 calls. The idig online ticket entry system is seeing significant growth as 25, 282 request were filed for the month of June. OUPS added a new feature to their web site recently called edig. This online request form is for homeowners only. Residents enter a single address location for utility locates and they receive an verification showing start date and a list of utilities notified. By law, everyone must contact OUPS at least 48 hours prior to any digging on their property. For the year 2007, our department received 1,145 notifications and for 2008, 1312 notices. The event will be held on August 15 from the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Electronics that can be dropped off include TVs, VCR s, DVD Players, computers, monitors, Mainframe and network equipment, handheld games, Game Systems, MP3 Players, cell phones, telephones, printers, scanners, fax machines, cords and chargers and small appliances Please NO microwaves, refrigerators or freezers. This event is limited to residents of Belmont and Jefferson Counties. Proof of residency is required.
