Biomedical company stays in Mirandola and moves back into its offices Emilia Romagna - Emanuele Scarci Not even a month since the earthquake that struck Emilia on 29 May, the biomedical company Bellco is resuming 70% of its operations in five mega tension structures, and will once again be 100% operational in its anti-seismic facility in Mirandola between 1 August and 1 September. Undoubtedly a reassuring message for the customers of the Modenese company, but also denoting an uncommon promptness, underlines Antonio Leone, Chairman of Bellco, and if I may say so, a reaction worthy of a big multinational: after just a few days we gradually resumed our activity in the tension structures equipped with airconditioning and every comfort. And today 235 out of 361 employees are once again back to work. What s more, between the first and the second big quake, we managed to bring three new Bellco machines to the International nephrology congress in Paris. The shareholder has guaranteed maximum support, says Tommaso Beolchini, founding partner of the Charme Fund that controls Bellco, and we will bend over backwards to help the company. Paradoxically, instead of discouraging us, the earthquake has accelerated the investments. Moreover, Bellco is an excellent enterprise whose strength is based on technology. Charme just made it in time to clinch the acquisition of the Modenese company, 4 months ago, and now they are already facing the quantification of the damages caused by the earthquake. We ll look at the damages later, for now we just wanted to resume the activity, replies Beolchini. Bellco is among the leading five operators worldwide in haemodialysis and extracorporeal blood clearance systems. The company was taken over by the Charme II Fund managed by Montezemolo&Partners Sgr and the private equities Argos Soditic and MpVenture. The company, active in the biomedical district of Mirandola, closed 2011 with a revenue of 108 million, EBITDA of 17 m and a profit of 7 m. The group makes 54% if its revenue abroad, and in Canada is the leader in dialysis machines. Bellco s financial position is 30 million in net liabilities with 60 million in credits. Returning to its production activity, Bellco has resumed supply of all the material necessary for standard dialysis treatments and is working full steam to ensure continued delivery of special treatments and advanced therapies such as HFR (online haemodiafiltration with endogenous reinfusion) which represents one of the excellences of the company. The aim is to resume machine manufacture within one or two months and to recommence full operation of the clean rooms and dialyser production by September, as well as production of the material dedicated to advanced treatments for chronic and acute patients. We have decided to stay in the district in spite of facing a complex and exacting operation, concludes Leone, because this, amongst other things, will allow us to maintain a wealth we cannot afford to squander: the qualified manpower, occupation and know-how of the district of Mirandola.
