27 Expected readiness of autonomy enabling technologies Technology development state The transition to autonomous ships will most likely take place in steps: Remote monitoring and control of propulsion and navigational systems. Crews would be reduced as some functions are moved onshore, e.g. monitoring machinery. Watchkeeping and navigation support.
