3 Jarrod O Dell, TIS Page 3 Setup Steps 1. Connect the laptop to the board using the following procedure (Note: The board should be turned on BEFORE the laptop): a. Make sure the board is plugged in b. Connect the USB cord to the USB port on the laptop c. Connect the VGA (video) cable to the port on the laptop d. Connect the audio cord to the audio (headphone) port on the side of the laptop e. Press the Power button on the SmartBoard pen tray the light will turn from purple to green f. Power on and log-on to the laptop i. Username = Teacher, there is not password ii. Always save to D: SAVE HERE This drive is not DeepFreeze protected and WILL NOT erase your files. However, the laptop IS DeepFreeze protected and your files will be erased if you save anywhere other than this drive (or your network folder if logged on with your T- Account). **Note: If you wish to use a DVD player with the board, the DVD player must be connected to the three-cord port on the wall mount in the section that says Video (Red, Yellow, White) 2. Once the image comes up on the board, you should see the Menu option (if you don t see this option on the board, press the Show/Hide Menu button on the pen tray). Press the Menu option.this will allow you to select Scratchpad, Computer1, or Video. Choose the option you want to use. **NOTE: If the SmartBoard displays the message Cannot Find Computer, press key combination FN+F4 on the laptop until the image displays on the SmartBoard and laptop you ll need to wait a couple of seconds after each attempt to see if the image appears. The image on the laptop will be reduced in size this is necessary for the SmartBoard to recognize the display settings of 1024 X 768 pixels. 3. If the board says Could not find functioning SmartBoard, click to start the wizard.it will automatically detect the board 4. If you wish to adjust the size/position of the projected image, you may do so by going to the Settings Menu (seen by pressing Show/Hide on pen tray) and then choosing Advanced Settings, or by using the SmartBoard remote.

Orient the board by going to: Control Panel, Orient/Align (Note: You can orient by the 20-point settings if this is not chosen already by going to Tools (on the control panel), and choosing SmartBoard Settings, Click the drop-down list and choose Orientation/Alignment Settings) **ORIENTATION When orienting the board, if the Show/Hide Menu box is displayed, click the Show/Hide Menu button on the pen tray to remove the box so that you may click on the alignment point in the lower-left corner. If at any time the orientation becomes so displaced that you cannot get control of the cursor accurately, press the ORIENTATION button on the remote to bring up the orientation. **Laptop Internet Note: When taking the laptop home if you need to connect to the internet, you will need to go to Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, Internet Options, choose the Connections tab, click on LAN Settings Under Proxy Server, uncheck the box. When you return the laptop to school, in order to connect to the internet, follow the same procedure and recheck the box. Average bulb life is approx 2,000 hours

7 Jarrod O Dell, TIS Page 7 * Change the Recorded Video Format 1. Open SMART Recorder from the Start Center, and press the Menu button. 2. Select Options. 3. In the Options dialog box, press the Video Format tab and select an AVI video format: Select the Microsoft Video (*.avi) format to create a file that can be viewed with any version of the Windows Media Player. This format uses 256 colors. Select the SMART Recorder Video (*.avi) format to create a more compressed file. This format uses 16 million colors. Because it has more colors, this format produces videos that look better than those produced by the Microsoft Video format. The SMART Recorder Video format can be viewed in Windows Media Player by anyone who has SMART Board software. You can also convert it using the Share Recording feature so users who do not have SMART Board software can view the video. 3. Press OK.

9 Jarrod O Dell, TIS Page 9 ScratchPad **Notes taken from ScratchPad is a simplified whiteboarding application, which is built-in to the projector s software. It enables you to make up to 30 pages of annotations and notes, without a computer attached!!! Saving ScratchPad Pages Save your ScratchPad pages at any time by pressing this button. You can save the ScratchPad pages to a USB storage device as PDF, JPEG or SMART Notebook files. When you press this button, the Save to USB Storage Device dialog opens, providing three options: Press the Save all pages as a PDF document button to save all ScratchPad pages as a single.pdf file, with each page saved as a separate document page. Press the Save each page as a JPEG image button to save each ScratchPad page as a seperate.jpg file. Press the Save all pages as a SMART Notebook file button to save all ScratchPad pages as a single.xbk file, with each page saved as a separate Notebook page. NOTE: Saving ScratchPad pages to a USB storage device does not delete the pages. ScratchPad Toolbar Press to access the menu to select your input source or to exit. Press to delete all pages. Press to delete the current page. Press to add a new page. Press to access the help topics. Press to adjust 600i system settings.

10 Jarrod O Dell, TIS Page 10 Capturing video images as ScratchPad pages You can choose to view a video from a connected DVD player, VCR, document camera or even a television tuner. You can also capture images from the video as Scratchpad pages, or you can freeze the video to make notes over it. Press to clear your annotations. Press to freeze the video image. Press to capture to ScratchPad. To make notes over your video image, do the following: 1. While the video is playing, pick up a pen tool from the pen tray, and select your line thickness and shade 2. Write over the video image, and then select the Capture button. The video image and your notes will appear as a new ScratchPad page. 3. Press the Clear button to erase your notes 4. If there is a particular frame of the video that you want to stop to make notes over, press the Freeze button, and then repeat step 2. Press Resume to continue with your video. NOTE: When you press the Freeze button a still image will appear, however, the video is still playing it is not actually paused.

This is a separate drive on the laptop that IS NOT protected by DeepFreeze. The same is true with other clipart..you can actually save clipart images from other locations to Notebook software by copying the clipart, selecting the My Content section of the Gallery, and pasting the clipart into your own collection!!! Notebook software has built-in handwriting recognition. If you take a word and then use the select tool to select that word, click the drop-down list in the upper right-hand corner of the selected word, you will get options. When you click on the option that you want, Notebook automatically converts that handwritten word into typed text!

14 Jarrod O Dell, TIS Page 14 Troubleshooting Problem: The board loses connection from the laptop during use. Solution: Should the board stop responding to your touch during operation, check the Ready Light (Figure 5a). If the light is flashing red, or is solid red, follow these steps: 1. To check the status of your hardware, open the SMART Control Panel ( Wrench button on the START CENTER toolbar) and select SMART Board Settings. Read the SMART Board Settings dialog box for status information. If it says unable to connect and gives you a RED WARNING SIGN, move to the next step. 2. Unplug the USB cable from the laptop, wait 3 SECONDS and plug the cable back in. 3. From the SMART Control Panel, open the Connection Wizard. Follow the steps in the connection wizard to re-establish the connection. Wait a few seconds. The Ready Light should turn a solid green. You may now resume your use of the SmartBoard. Figure 5a
