15 4. Eureka and Eurostars tourism projects a few key issues The specific potential market must be outlined correctly (eg. congress tourism, on-line tools for rural tourism, etc.). Business plan should be ambitious but also highly realistic. E-tourism market is huge with great competition. Must be identified. Marketing plan must be explained. Eg. If a DMO takes part in the project, replication strategy to other DMOs must be outlined. Give details on the marketing cost and funding plan. Focus must be set on the need of the project by end-users (tourists, retail, tourism industry) and not on the technology stateof-the-art. Eureka and Eurostars tourism projects a few key issues Consortia: must include technology providers and content providers (DMO, tourism authorities, etc.) In projects that deal with big-data or data analytics, the entity that provides the data must be clearly established and if possible must be part of the consortium. SMEs: can face difficult access to markets. The proposal must explain their potential partnership plan with main stakeholders (main reservation portals, hotel groups, virtual operators, etc.) How will we compete with the big ones? (Google, Facebook, ) Try to justify how we will access markets with very tight profit rates (airline carriers, touroperators) and limited investment rates. 16 (19/05/2014)
