3 An Introduction to Comunidad Mosaico Comunidad Mosáico (the Mosaic Community) is a small community of Christians living and working in urban poor communities in Mexico City. We are made up of people from different cultural, professional, educational, national, class, and organizational backgrounds. Currently we have people from New Zealand, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Switzerland, the US, and Mexico on our team. We re a community with a big vision; we love Jesus and seek to follow him with our life, our talents, our gifts and our professional expertise in the context of urban poverty. We are affiliated with U.S.-based Servant Partners International and Switzerland-based Serving Missions Globally. Our goal is to transform the urban slums we live in by equipping the urban poor to become change agents in their own communities. We do this by incarnationally living among the urban poor, sharing life, practicing hospitality, and by pursuing the following strategic initiatives: Planting Kingdom-minded Churches Developing Servant and Apostolic Leaders Increasing Civic Participation & Strengthening Civil Society Community Organizing & Community Development Promoting Community & Family Health Developing Youth & Children as Change Agents Developing Educational Initiatives and Community Arts Offering Psycho-Spiritual Counseling and Emotional Health Retreats Economic & Business Development Building Relational Bridges between Civil Society-Business-Government, Networking and Coalition Building Engaging in Public Defense, Advocacy and Lobbying for Better Governance Contributing to Urban Design Research and Research on other Pertinent Issues Our overarching goal is to develop a change model that reduces poverty, violence and corruption and that leads to communities where God s Kingdom becomes more visible. In fact, we re very intentional about developing a change model that can be adapted, reproduced and multiplied by other organizations, churches, ministry teams and social actors in Mexico City and beyond so that many more slum dwellers can experience a better life.

4 Business as Mission Coordinator Title: Business as Mission (BAM) Coordinator / Social Enterprises Manager Develop & Manage Social Enterprises Bridge-building between Social Classes Discipleship Job Summary The BAM Coordinator will mobilize social entrepreneurship and business as mission initiatives that will enhance Comunidad Mosáico s strategy for urban transformation, build bridges between the rich and the poor and create networks that will contribute to the growth of a holistic discipleship-based movement. To achieve this goal the job of the BAM Coordinator will be primarily three-fold: a) to manage the start-up, growth and development of business enterprises that will create new jobs and generate revenues for Comunidad Mosáico s transformational initiatives, thus helping decrease our dependency on outside resources; b) to build bridges between business professionals and the urban poor that will lead to new social entrepreneurship initiatives; c) to contribute to the development of disciples Children s Coordinator Title: ProNiñez Coordinator Project Management of ProNiñez Training & Mentoring Creating Synergies Job Summary The Coordinator for ProNiñez will coordinate Comunidad Mosáico s holistic children s initiative, ProNiñez, focusing on the following key tasks: a) coordinate, grow and reproduce ProNiñez in all of its aspects: kids clubs, homework clubs, nutrition clubs, community projects, a children s parliament, in addition to intentionally working with local primary schools and parents of children; b) identify, train, mentor and supervise local volunteer children workers; c) intentionally connect with other Comunidad Mosaico community transformation and church planting initiatives and d) commitment to personal and professional growth.

5 Church Planter/ Leadership Development Worker Title: Church Planter/Leadership Developer Organic Church Planting Leadership Development & Mentoring Theological Training The job of the Church Planter/Leadership Development Worker will be primarily three-fold: a) to engage in relational ministry, start evangelistic Bible studies and disciple new followers of Jesus; b) to plant healthy, reproducing house churches within an overarching strategy to facilitate a holistic church planting movement among Mexico City s urban poor; c) to train, develop and mentor effective, local church leaders, church planters and church planting trainers through informal, apprentice-based trainings Community Arts Coordinator Title: Community Arts Coordinator Community Arts & Transformation Community Beautification Training & Mentoring The goal of Comunidad Mosaico s community arts initiative is to use the arts to bring hope and healing to individuals and communities through direct arts-integrated interventions (social, spiritual, educational, and therapeutic). To achieve this goal the job of the Community Arts Coordinator includes the following: a) employ the arts to help people tell their personal histories as a way to acknowledge, express and reflect on what happened in their lives, while also using the arts in a dynamic way to encourage in children, youth and adults to identify issues and needs within their communities and become actively involved; b) to train and mentor residents to grow in leadership and replicate and implement arts-related projects with other community residents; c) to involve residents in beautification projects that build community pride (in coordination with Comunidad Mosaico s organizing process); d) to liaise with Comunidad Mosaico s holistic church planting activities and other community transformation initiatives to maximize the positive life change impact of the initiative s activities.

6 Community & Church Worker Title: Community & Church Worker Practical & Relational Ministry Supporting Church Planting Efforts Supporting Community Transformation Initiatives Evangelism and Discipleship Passion for the poor and a desire to see lives transformed spiritually and socially, compels the Community & Church Worker to contribute to Comunidad Mosaico s overall vision and mission in two areas: Church planting and Community transformation. The role of the Community & Church worker is not confined to a specific area or set of responsibilities. The position is flexible and open to those who wish to serve through commitment, character and skills, and explore their specific involvement and/or distinct role over time. Community Organizer Title: Community Organizer with Project Fortaleza Community Organizing Training & Mentoring Training of Churches & Civic Associations Networking and Coalition Building The overall goal of Comunidad Mosaico s community organizing process (Project Fortaleza) is to catalyse a replicable process by which community members organize themselves to creatively address their own issues and needs, and deal corporately with those forces that are exploiting their community and causing their powerlessness. The organizing process is meant to lead to the creation of community-based organizations (CBOs) and civic groups, in addition to broad-based coalitions of like-minded local churches, community groups and civic associations. To achieve this goal the job of the community organizer will include the following: a) provide ongoing organizing and advocacy training and mentoring to identified community leaders; b) establish community-based groups that develop creative responses to the needs of the community as a whole; c) replicate this process with interested local churches and civic associations and provide ongoing training and mentoring as churches and community groups work towards the development of community-based organizations; d) engage in coalition/alliance building by creating strong partnerships with local churches and civic associations in the wider community that broaden the network and integrate more factions into the overall organizing process; e) liaise with Comunidad Mosaico s holistic church planting activities and other community transformation initiatives

7 ESL Coordinator Title: English as Second Language Coordinator Teaching ESL Program Supervision Life Skills Training and Mentoring The goal of Comunidad Mosaico s ESL initiative is to foster relationships, advance labor skills and education, promote life-skills and help diversify Comunidades de Shalom s holistic church planting approach by tapping into the evangelistic potential of ESL classes and integrating interested beneficiaries into church plants. To achieve this goal the job of the ESL Coordinator will focus on the following: a) mobilize and develop holistic language training materials and implement a ESL program; b) accredit our ESL program with the National Secretary of Education in order to create an English Language School; c) provide life skills training and mentoring to people participating in ESL classes; d) intentionally help in evangelism and discipleship of ESL participants and their families; e) connect ESL participants and their families with other Comunidad Mosaico transformation initiatives Executive Assistant Title: Executive Assistant Communications & Correspondence Marketing & Development Administrative, Operations & Logistics Support Job Summary The Executive Assistant will assist the Executive Director of Comunidad Mosáico and its subsidiary organizations in the following focus areas: a) communications and correspondence; b) marketing and development; and c) administrative, operations and logistics support. This position requires fluency in both English and Spanish. While the Executive Assistant will pursue the fulfillment of their described job functions, they serve the overall vision and mission of Comunidad Mosáico. Therefore, the Executive Assistant s responsibilities are not limited to their specific job description.

8 Mercy Ministry Coordinator Title: Mercy Ministry Coordinator Practical Ministry Networking and Referrals Evangelism and Discipleship Coordinate Self-help Groups Supporting Churches The goal of this position is to practically address peoples needs by way of walking alongside, ministering to, creating self-help groups, and connecting them to existing services offered by public and civic agencies. To achieve this goal the job of the Mercy Ministry Coordinator will be primarily three-fold: a) to identify and practically minister to vulnerable community residents (i.e. special needs, addicts, prostitutes, elderly, sickly) and coordinate emergency relief efforts to affected community residents; b) to network and establish partnerships with existing services offered by public, civic and Christian agencies; c) to launch and coordinate self-help counseling and addiction recovery groups and d) to train and help local churches to provide support to vulnerable community residents and their families Pastoral Care Coordinator Title: Coordinator for Pastoral Care & Centro Renovar Pastoral Care and Counseling Hospitality Coordination at Centro Renovar Leading Spiritual and Emotional Healing Retreats Leadership Development & Mentoring The role of the Pastoral Care Coordinator is to provide pastoral care to Comunidad Mosaico staff, while also coordinating Centro Renovar. Centro Renovar s goal is to provide a restful place to local pastors, community leaders and Comunidad Mosaico staff for renewal; while also generating income by offering local churches and organizations a space for seminars, conferences, and retreats, and lodging visitors and short-term teams. To achieve this dual goal, the Pastoral Care Coordinator s job will be primarily five-fold: a) to offer pastoral care, prayer, personal counsel and encouragement to Comunidad Mosaico staff as well as other leaders involved in urban ministry; b) to create a hospitable and welcoming environment at Centro Renovar in order to provide urban poor pastors, community leaders, Comunidad Mosaico staff and urban slum workers the opportunity for periodic rest, relaxation, reflection and recreation; c) to coordinate hospitality logistics for visiting guests and groups; d) to lead spiritual and emotional health retreats for emerging and existing church and community leaders; e) to provide leadership development and mentoring to select leaders, identified by Comunidad Mosaico, helping them grow in their emotional health and leadership effectiveness.

9 Public Health Worker Title: Public Health Worker with Project ProSalud Community Health Initiatives Training & Mentoring Medical Clinics & Public Health Campaigns The overall goal of this initiative is to promote community health by developing a replicable strategy that will train Community Health Promoters and address public health needs in families and communities through preventive health education in schools, families, communities, through medical clinics and campaigns, and through collaborative efforts with public health centers. To achieve this goal the job of the Public Health Worker will include the following: a) assist in the development and growth of ProSalud; b) identify, train, equip, mentor and supervise local Community Health Promoters; c) assist in the carrying out of medical clinics and public health campaigns; d) intentionally help in evangelism and discipleship with families involved in ProSalud; e) liaise with Comunidad Mosaico s holistic church planting activities and other community transformation initiatives Strategy Coordinator Title: Strategy Coordinator Networking and Public Relations Building Relationships with Leaders and help form Strategic Alliances Training and Coaching of Leaders, Churches and Organizations Help direct Project Nehemiah Challenge Assist in the Development of Coalitions and Networks The role of the Strategic Coordinator is to work in coordination with the Executive Director to plan, coordinate and manage the strategic growth of Comunidad Mosaico, with regards to building strategic alliances, providing coaching and training to other organizations and churches, while also helping direct Project Nehemiah Challenge. Project Nehemiah Challenge seeks to equip existing churches to become agents of change in their urban poor communities via coaching and training in five core areas: training in holistic theology; servant leadership development; emotional health; community organizing & development; and church planting. To achieve these goals, the Strategy Coordinator s job will be primarily four-fold: a) help grow the visibility of Comunidad Mosaico through public relations and networking and by helping build strategic alliances with organizations and church bodies that share affinity in our goal of holistic transformation of urban slums; b) provide coaching and training to organizations and churches interested in holistically impacting their urban poor communities; c) help direct Project Nehemiah Challenge and d) assist in the development of a Center for Transforming Mission and a broad-based coalition for integral mission.

10 Youth Sports Facilitator Title: Youth Sports Facilitator Children & Youth Work Sports Ministry Life Skills Training Mentoring & Coaching The goal of the Comunidad Mosaico s ACJU (Youth as Agents of Change) project is to establish a youth movement that inspires and develops youth into agents of change in their families and communities and integrates them into Comunidades de Shalom s church planting efforts. To achieve this goal, the Youth Sports Facilitator will use sports as a vehicle to reach children youth in the target communities. His/her main responsibilities include: a) assist in the development and growth of a children and youth soccer league and/or other sports leagues that are integrated into ACJU; b) assist in the training and mentoring of youth to become agents of change within their respective communities; c) develop coaches and youth promoters to give follow up to youth participants; d) intentionally help in evangelism and discipleship with youth and their families; e) connect ACJU youth and families with other Comunidad Mosaico transformation initiatives Youth Worker Title: Youth Facilitator of Project ACJU Youth Work Life Skills Training Recreational Ministry Training & Mentoring The goal of the Comunidad Mosaico s ACJU (Youth as Agents of Change) project is to establish a youth movement that inspires and develops youth into agents of change in their families and communities and integrates them into Comunidades de Shalom s church planting efforts. To achieve this goal, the job of the Youth Worker will be primarily three-fold: a) to assist in the implementation and growth of Project ACJU; b) to assist in the training and mentoring of youth to become agents of change within their respective communities; c) to assist in the creation of new youth clubs whether in local schools or the community in general; d) intentionally help in evangelism and discipleship with youth and their families; e) connect ACJU youth and families with other Comunidad Mosaico transformation initiatives.

11 General Information All job openings are subject to the following: Probationary Period There will be a probationary period of six months to one year to determine the compatibility of the new team member with the organization and his/her job description. Language Acquisition/Training Depending on existing language skills, the first 3-6 months will be dedicated to understanding the culture and learning Spanish. Proficiency levels will be discussed related to requirements to begin the scope of work as described in the job description. Compensation and Funding New team members will raise their own salary (if necessary) with coaching from organizational staff, and will be compensated according to standard Comunidad Mosaico compensation guidelines.
