Role of committee // Page 1 of 6 Committee Role Descriptions President 1 Vice-President 1 Secretary 2 Treasurer 2 Freshers Week Coordinator 3 Events Week Coordinator 3 International Coordinator 4 Follow Up Coordinator 4 Prayer and Praise Coordinator 5 Hall Group Coordinator 5 Whole Committee Responsibilities 6 President Unlike other committee roles, the president principally has committee responsibilities. Along with the vice-president, the president s one key aim is to safeguard the vision of SUCU. The vision being to give every student at the University of Southampton the opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ. In reality, what this means is that both the president and vice-president lead the committee who as a whole the lead SUCU. The role takes the form of speaking to committee members and supporting them in their roles throughout the year (both when they are busy and quiet) and having an idea of what is going on throughout the CU in order to support people in sharing Jesus Christ. President responsibilities The practical ways in which the president aims to do this are: Meeting with the vice-president weekly, and other committee members regularly Keeping in regular contact with the UCCF staff worker Being aware of the CU timeline to plan discussions on future activities Writing agendas and chairing the committee meetings Writing speaker briefs for Unite Chairing committee meetings. Vice-President Unlike other committee roles, the vice-president principally has committee responsibilities. Along with the president, the vice-president s one key aim is to safeguard the vision of SUCU. Vice-President responsibilities The practical ways in which the vice-president aims to do this are: Meeting with the president weekly, and other committee members regularly Keeping in regular contact with the UCCF staff worker Being aware of the CU timeline to plan discussions on future activities Supporting the president in all their responsibilities Receiving the questions address and, when necessary, passing on these suggestions to be discussed in committee.

Role of committee // Page 2 of 6 Secretary As with any member of the committee, the CU Secretary serves a dual role. There are secretarial responsibilities and then standard Committee responsibilities. Secretarial Responsibilities Taking the minutes at Committee meetings Act as the main point of liaison for external parties, including: Booking the speakers for Unite meetings Booking rooms for all CU events - this includes on and off campus Maintaining a good relationship with SUSU and churches Members of the CU - queries often end up in the Secretary s inbox Know what is happening within the CU, ensure everything is running smoothly on a practical level and in accordance with the Constitution where appropriate. These responsibilities have an administrative nature on one level, but there is more to the role of Secretary than that: in being aware of the practical needs and arrangements, the Secretary is often able to provide support to others on the Committee above and beyond the relatively simple task of making bookings. The amount of time spent on SUCU varies greatly from week to week, and the Secretary is able to both delegate and appropriate extra tasks and areas of responsibility as they feel fit. For instance, Tim has been heavily involved in the running of the Weekend Away, logistics for Forum and with the website because of his personal interests and experience. Treasurer As with any member of the committee, the CU treasurer serves a dual role. There are treasurer responsibilities and then standard Committee responsibilities, this means that the treasurer is much more than just an accountant. Treasurer Responsibilities Steward CU s finances Being aware of: Sources of money coming in from donations Where money is being spent Who in the CU is owed money Advise the committee when planning events by predicting how much each is going to cost to publicise and run Meeting and agreeing budgets with: Freshers week team iwelcome team Events week team SUCU Team leaders...and meeting with them if they are departing from the budget! Applying for funding from SUSU.

Role of committee // Page 3 of 6 Freshers Week Coordinator As with any member of the committee, the Freshers week coordinator serves a dual role. There are Freshers week responsibilities and then standard Committee responsibilities, this means that the Freshers week coordinator is needed all year round. Freshers Week Responsibilities Prayerfully form Freshers Week team Meet regularly with team together and separately, pray for God s work during Freshers Week together, and plan together Liaise with CU teams, Churches, SUSU and Residences about Freshers Week events Launch Freshers Week to CU get across vision of Freshers Week and excitement of being able to tell a whole new group of students about Jesus! Attend Freshers Week Training with the rest of your team Order flyers and food, make sure bookings have been done (all the nitty gritty details of the events) Be wise about what you can / can t do, as Freshers Week is exhausting! Make sure you know how to rest and trust in God. Be continually praying for that God would use Freshers Week and anything else after that to bring people to know Him Rely and depend completely on God through all of this. You will be hugely encouraged by what He can do, especially through our weaknesses, and be evermore grateful of the fact that He is sovereign over everything including Freshers Week and that He promises to be always with us! (This role is currently known as Evangelism Coordinator (Freshers Week)) Events Week Coordinator As with any member of the committee, the CU Events Week Coordinator serves a dual role, the responsibility to organise Events Week as well as general committee responsibilities. Events Week Responsibilities Events Week is the main evangelistic week of events in the CU calendar so that people on campus can be introduced to God and hear about the love and gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a follow on from the weekly and daily evangelism that the CU does as a whole and individually to answer people s questions and encourage them to explore reasons behind our faith. The planning, organisation and prayer for the week is vital and consists of: Heading up the team that organises and plans events week Helping to motivate and equip the CU for evangelism during the week and months leading up to Events Week Launching Events Week to the CU and communicating with them and the churches how to be involved Praying and encouraging the CU to be committed in praying for the week. The role involves a fair amount of organisation but it also includes a lot of communication with CU and people outside who are involved and the speakers for the week. The role is an exciting opportunity to be involved in such a great week of sharing the gospel with campus and includes having a heart for evangelism and seeing people come to know Jesus is. The amount of time spent on SUCU varies week to week, as Events Week Coordinator the first term of the new academic year (September onwards) is a fair amount busier than the previous term because the planning for Events Week commences. There is the opportunity to take on extra events either during the end of the second term as there is less to organise during this term for Events Week or during the first term of the new academic year, such as the weekend away where Events Week is traditionally launched. (This role is currently known as Evangelism Coordinator (Events Week))

Role of committee // Page 4 of 6 International Coordinator As with any member of the committee, the international coordinator serves a dual role. There are international responsibilities and then standard committee responsibilities, this means that the international coordinator does much more than just icafé. We are commissioned to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28) and have been blessed with the unique opportunity, whilst at university, to meet so many from all over the world: in the form of international students studying at Southampton. International responsibilities Helping CU members see that God can t be kept in a box; that his gospel and loving purposes are for His whole world, including every international student on our campus and the nations have come to our doorstep! God wants all the nations to hear about Jesus through the gospel.» He sends his people (us) to share the gospel to all nations, so Being passionate about sharing the amazing gospel message we have been entrusted with amongst our campus, with a particular focus on international students Encouraging the CU to pray for students in CUs like ours worldwide. Supporting and loving the icafé team. Coordinating iwelcome Week Organising ibuddies Liaising with Friends International Representing international work to the committee. (This role is currently known as Evangelism Coordinator (International)) Follow Up Coordinator Follow Up responsibilities Choose a second - typically useful if they are of opposite gender - they will be your right hand man/woman! They help run the courses. Run a follow-up course twice a year, previously after Fresher s Week and Events Week. This includes; Choosing which course to run, such as Alpha, Christianity Explored etc Choosing start dates Ensure you have the correct materials - check the cage! If you d like speakers, choose who and invite them Choosing a team to run the course; typically 5 boys, 5 girls - known as table leaders Choosing and coordinating a venue (with the secretary) Communicate with sound / visuals if you would like to do so Organising advertising - flyers, Facebook group/event etc / communicate with marketing Communicate with catering if you would like food Events - such as Lunch Time Talks, Events Week etc Design feedback leaflets, and ensure every guest has one to be filled in at the end of events Make sure those who have asked to be followed up - are, for example in events week the alumni/older helpers will try and meet for coffee Possibly passing on the written comments on the event organisers, feeding it back to the rest of committee, and possibly speakers. Sounds like a lot - but don t panic, choose a second you trust and know you ll work well with, they will be someone you rely on - and you ll be SO thankful for them. (This role is currently known as Evangelism Coordinator (Follow Up))

Role of committee // Page 5 of 6 Prayer and Praise Coordinator As with all the roles, a big part of the job is to be a member of committee. Specifically however, it is the role of the prayer and praise coordinator to remain aware of the spiritual state of SUCU, particularly as expressed through corporate prayer and sung worship. Prayer and Praise responsibilities Supporting the BPM and Worship teams Regularly meeting with these teams leaders. Hall Group Coordinator As with any member of the committee, the hall group coordinator serves a dual role. There are hall group responsibilities and then standard committee responsibilities, this means that the hall group coordinator does much more than just work with hall group leaders. Hall Group responsibilities The purpose of hall groups are not just to bring Christians together to grow in friendship, to read the Bible, worship and pray together, but to be a missional community on campus. The role of the hall group coordinator within this is: Helping facilitate effective missional communities through planning of training, studies, All Halls and outreach events Working alongside the hall group leaders to equip and encourage them in their roles Organising weekly Hall Group Leader Training with our UCCF Staff Worker Representing hall groups to committee. The role is not just about admin, it is a relational role involving caring for the leaders of hall groups and supporting them. The most important part of the role is to be committed to praying for hall groups and the leaders, to lift everything up to God and to seek His wisdom in the mission of hall groups. (This role is currently known as Discipleship Coordinator)

Role of committee // Page 6 of 6 Whole Committee Responsibilities Committee Responsibilities Maintain the unity and vision of SUCU which is to share Jesus name on campus Attend committee meetings Help run Unite & events during the year and support other committee members Be available and approachable to members of SUCU Be responsible as a unit of ten the committee leads SUCU Represent some teams to committee Pray for SUCU Attend BPM, Unite, Forum South East and National Forum. All committee members will also be asked to sign the doctrinal basis (as found on the website) to state that they agree with it. Therefore all committee members will agree with it and should be living their faith out in an active and obvious way.
