2 Dear parents/guardians and students, Welcome to the Natural Resources Summer Bridge Program! This is a near full-time, 8-week commitment in which students will take a writing and forestry class (with lab component) at SWOCC, and spend 1-2 days per week in a field-based internship with the Coos Watershed Association. Dates of the program are June 22 August 14, In the next week, if they have not already done so, students will need to take the COMPASS college entrance test at SWOCC. I will be contacting you to arrange this. Tentative schedule for the program: MORNING MONDAY Watershed internship all day (~9-4) TUESDAY Writing and forestry classes at SWOCC (8 am-noon) OFF AFTERNOON WEDNESDAY Writing and forestry classes at SWOCC (8 am-noon) Internship 1:00-5:00** THURSDAY Writing and forestry classes at SWOCC (8 am-noon) OFF FRIDAY OFF **The half-day of internship will be on either Tues, Wed, or Thurs afternoon, and we might not do it every week. Thanks for your patience while we get a schedule set up. To receive credit for the internship, students must be available to attend all internship trips unless prior arrangements are made, as well as write a final paper or complete a final project, likely a public presentation (don t worry this is the fun part!!). Field trips for internship and forestry class will involve off-campus travel (up to 30 miles from campus). Parents/guardians should recognize that participation beyond the school campus has inherent risks and that while participation in the class is voluntary, field trips are a required part of the program. Students are expected to exercise good judgment and common sense at all times relative to safety and appropriate conduct. Coos Watershed and other project partners will be photographing student activities during class for outreach and education purposes. Photos will never be sold or used for purposes other than outreach, education, and reporting associated with the summer bridge program.
