1 YOUTH ART EXPLORERS Using a variety of mediums we will explore the drawing, painting, and more. We will work on a new project each week. We will make fairy houses of different types and other fun fairy crafts. This is a great chance to bring out the inner fairy of your child. We are an art education program designed for preschool through elementary grades. We study an artist, technique or media each week, with time to create our own original piece from what we discuss in class. Children will use paints, watercolors, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, chalk, clay and more some projects can take up to two weeks to complete. Children must be potty-trained. There is a $20 fee payable to ARTSCOOL ART on the first day of class. Age on date of class. Students will have fun as they learn to see the world in a whole new way. In Art History with the Masters, artists will create their own masterpieces in the style of the famous impressionists. In Culinary Mischief, the class will create kitchen cartoons and other funny food drawings. Passport to Pastels will have kids creating works of art using chalk pastels. 2 PHOTOGRAPHY FUN FOR KIDS With Jim Pettit Students will learn the basics of the camera, composition, and processing. We will make a project with the pictures we take during the class. We offer private lessons with our knowledgeable staff in the following areas: Photography, Figure Drawing, Drawing the Head and Face, Painting, Drawing and Pastels. 4 PET PORTRAIT WITH CRAIG FORD Ever wanted to paint a portrait of your dog or cat? Pet Portrait Painting will teach techniques to create a head and shoulders portrait working from photos of pets. The class will cover what to look for in your photo reference, how to get that image onto the canvas, how to capture the likeness in the eyes and nose of the pet, the animal s fur and which colors work best for your pet portraiture. The class is for students with some oil or acrylic painting experience. Students should plan to start with a 12 x 12 canvas, a set of earth-tone paint colors and a basic set of brushes. Students should plan on spending approximately $45 on supplies for this class. Ages 14 & up. In many ways, painting this season can be more challenging than painting the overwhelming greens of spring and summer. 5 BEGINNING TO INTERMEDIATE OIL & ACRYLIC PAINTING From thumbnail sketches to a finished work of art, bring your ideas to life. This class emphasizes planning in painting through composition, studies, and gathering reference materials before the start of a painting. Class will focus on brushwork, color mixing, and application. Learn to master the three things that make up your subject: tone, shape, and color; allowing you to paint any subject: portrait, still life, or landscape equally well. The tonal drawing method teaches students how to see, analyze, and place shapes in the correct value onto their page. By not being tied down to initial lines, you have the freedom to work in a quicker, looser style or take it to a more finished level. 6 ADULT CLAY AND POTTERY CLASSES AT THE ART CENTER ON FOUTS ROAD BEGINNING WHEEL Students will explore form and surface in a demonstration-based atmosphere while learning to wedge, center, and throw basic forms such as mugs, bowls, and vases. This class is a must for the novices as it will focus on proper techniques that will be crucial as long as you aspire to make pottery on the wheel. Ages 14 & up, age on date of class. 7 YOUTH CLAY CLASSES AT ART CENTER WEST YOUTH WHEEL ACW This course is designed for the aspiring young artist to learn the basics of making wheel-thrown pottery. Your child will learn a new design vocabulary while gaining knowledge of the potters wheel and glazing techniques. Ages 8-14, age on date of class. Thur. 9/17-11/05 1/14-3/03 4:30-6:00 p.m Fee: $120, residents $180, non-residents CLAY PARTY / POTTERY WORKSHOP This program is great for birthday parties, scout troops and just about any group that is interested in getting their hands dirty and experiencing the ceramic medium firsthand. Participants will complete handbuilding or wheel projects in the allotted time and will pick up fired work at a prescheduled time. Parties and workshops will be one and a half hours of hands on clay lessons and a half hour for cake/party (all party materials will be the responsibility of the participant booking the event). Program number Fee: $20 per participant CLAY AND CLIMB This course is designed for the aspiring young artist to learn the basics of making wheel-thrown pottery accompanied with learning the up and coming sport of Recreational Tree Climbing! Your child will learn a new design vocabulary while gaining knowledge of the potter s wheel and glazing techniques. Your child will also learn basic knot tying for tree climbing along with the ability to safely navigate through the treetops. Ages 8-14, age on date of class. Students, no matter their skill level, will continue to refine their technical skills on the wheel while exploring personal ideas, thinking innovatively, and receiving helpful advice and constructive criticism. Participants will also have a chance to experiment with low-fire, decorative, and alternative firings such as raku and saggar on a scheduled basis. Instruction will be based on the interests of the class, but will focus on glazing, surface design, and firing for a wide range of results. Ages 16 & up, age on date of class. Thur. 9/17-11/05 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m :30-9:30 p.m FORM & SURFACE: FOR POTTERS This course will be geared toward intermediate to advanced participants that create vessel forms. A creative 8 week schedule will allow participants to explore and experiment with a variety of wheel-throwing and altering techniques as well as ceramic surfaces ranging including high-fire reduction, soda, raku, and low-fire oxidation. Ideas, images and lectures will be presented by multiple instructors to demonstrate a wide range of possibilities focused on wheel-thrown forms. Ages 16 & up, age on date of class. 8 BEGINNING HANDBUILDING This ceramics course will introduce the basics of handbuilding including pinch, coil, and slab construction, as well as a variety of surface and finishing options. Both sculptural and vessel options will be explored. Ages 16 & up, age on date of class. Wed. 9/16-11/04 1/13-3/2 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m OUTDOOR CERAMICS This course geared for handbuilders will focus on creating large forms to be used and/or displayed in large spaces, outdoors or in the garden. Instruction will focus on using a multitude of forming processes, layered surface design and mark-making at a range of firing temperatures. Participants will be free to choose their own direction for building during the course while ideas form ranging from vessels to furniture and mosaics to sculpture will be introduced.
