2 ST GEORGE S CENTRE This impressive 15 million pound build is the result of a close collaborative partnership between the Students Union and the University. The site includes a lounge bar, coffee shop and chill-out spaces which will be open for both students and staff to use, together with the Students Union offices, welfare facilities and superior student accommodation. B.D.B. were the architect and interior designers for the whole building including the Students Union facilities. They worked closely with the Students Union and the University s Facilities team to create a unique concept for each space in order to meet the demands of our student body. This building was very much designed by students for students. 02

10 ST GEORGE S CENTRE DELIVERING THE STUDENTS DREAM The St George s Centre is an example of genuine partnership working between the students and the University to deliver a truly state-of-the-art facility. From the start of the project, the Students Union representatives have been involved in the specification, design, furniture, colour schemes, and the delivery of the facilities services contract including the bar, food, coffee and other support services. No decision was taken without the students being involved. The University s Facilities team is proud to have been associated with the Students Union and its Board of Trustees developing what is possibly one of the finest Students Unions in the UK. 11 CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY A FEW FACTS St George s Centre is one of only a few Students Unions in the UK where all its student facilities are situated in one high street location The Students Union team has been fully involved in all aspects of the design, fit out, furniture and awarding of the facilities services contracts The Centre took 15 months to build throughout 2011/12, employing more than 200 local people 1.8m has been invested in the creation of the new Students Union facilities The facilities are available for hire when not in use by the University, for example during summer vacation.
