2 Experience China Without Boarding a Plane! For Students Entering Grades 1 through 6 Have fun learning Chinese language and culture through games, songs, art projects, outdoor exploration and simple plays. Choose one to four weeks. Wide ranging themes will vary each week and will include Chinese cuisine, Kung Fu, as well as Chinese calligraphy and painting. We welcome children of Chinese and non-chinese heritage, as well as children with prior Chinese language exposure or none at all. Please note that children will be separated into two classes based on language skill and class sizes will be limited and filled on a first come, first serve basis. 3 Meet our Teachers! Ella Liang has been teaching Chinese at Yale since She has been the Provost at Southern Connecticut Chinese school since She holds a B.A. in Chinese history and culture from Nanjing University and an M.A. in Second Language Teaching from Utah State University. Haiying Wang, a Beecher parent, teaches at the Southern Connecticut Chinese School and Aux Trois Pommes Language School in New Haven. She graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai with a B.A. and M.A. in English and American Literature, and she received a PhD in Comparative Literature from City University of Hong Kong. She co-translated Language through Culture, Culture through Language: A Framework for K-8 Mandarin Curriculum. She also works at the Yale-China Association. Jianhua Shen has taught Chinese at Yale since She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Chinese Language and Literature. She is also currently a teacher at the Southern Connecticut Chinese School. Master Cunjie (Jack) Guo is the owner of the Wu Dang Kungfu Academy in Orange. He has studied Chinese martial arts and competed at the highest levels in China.. Ning Xie, a Beecher parent, teaches Chinese language and calligraphy at the Southern Connecticut Chinese School. She also teaches at the Woodbridge Child Center. She graduated from Xiamen University of Technology (a.k.a. Lujiang University) with a B.S. in Economics. Her teachers include Professor Yu Gang, a famous Chinese calligraphy artist, and Guo Huairen, a famous Chinese painter. Rongzhen Li has taught Chinese at Yale since She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Chinese Language and Literature. From 2003 to 2009, she worked for the Southern Connecticut Chinese School as a teacher and Provost.

4 SEP 2015 Important Information Program Location & Hours: SEP 2015 runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 12:00 noon at Amity High School, 25 Newton Road, Woodbridge, CT Program Fees: Most courses lasting one week are $ However, all SEP Week 1 courses are $ as they are only four days in length due to observance of the July 4 th holiday on Friday, July 3 rd. Fees are incrementally higher for multiple-week courses. Please note that no refunds will be issued after Friday, June 19 th. Program Warning: Some classes may be closed due to low enrollment. Should this occur, you are welcome to register for an alternate course. Registration and payment options are open online at for your convenience: 1. Pay in full only with a credit or debit card* *If you wish to pay by check, please follow the directions below: 1. You must first have or create an online account, one for each child (see above) 2. 6 EXTENDED DAY SUMMER PROGRAM 8:00 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 5:30 p.m. The Extended Day staff is looking forward to another summer relaxing and playing with your child before and/or after Summer Enrichment or Woodbridge Recreation Department (WRD) Camp. As always, we are dedicated to ensuring that your child is safe and happy while you are at work. We have great fun during the summer, providing structured activities as well as plenty of opportunity for supervised free play.
