1 Seite 1 von 6 SONA BLW PRÄZISIONSSCHMIEDE GMBH TECHNICAL DELIVERY CONDITIONS TL 1 Semifinished products, rolled or forged Translation Revision: J 22. Juli Scope These terms of delivery lay down the requirements for rolled or forged billets and blooms of case hardening, heat treatable, roller bearing, creep resistant, stainless and hightemperature steels and alloys for hot working.these delivery specification is supplementary to our "General Terms and Conditions of Purchase" for all supplies, in so far as the order does not expressly contain other requirements. When these TL (Technical Terms of Delivery) are recognised, their contents are accepted as properties guaranteed by the vendor. 2 Requirements 2.1 Material Melting process Electrical melting or the oxygen blowing process (minimum yield 60 tons), special processes, such as electrical slag remelting (ESU) and vacuum arc remelting (LBV) Casting process The type of casting, either ingot (BL) or strand casting (ST), is stated each time in the order. Strand-cast steel must be shrouded cast and electromagnetically stirred. In the case of strand casting the minimum deformation ratio will be specified in the purchase order Manufacturing procedure In the case of deviations from the conditions mentioned under Points and 2.1.2, the permission of the orderer must be obtained. If there are any basic changes in the steel manufacturing process, these are to be agreed upon with SONA BLW before these are introduced into series production. Radioactivity isn t allowed in base material. see Material Specification Sheet (TLW) or other Chemical Composition Specifications Hardenability and grain size Technological properties see Material Specification Sheet (TLW) or other Specifications see Material Specification Sheet (TLW) or other Specifications Cutting properties Steel rod bars in multiple lengths are, depending on the order, to be supplied cold shearable or cold sawable.
2 Seite 2 von 6 cold shearable: Tensile strength max. 850 N/mm² (255 HB 30) / min.: 620 N/mm² (184 HB 30) cold sawable: Tensile strength max N/mm² (300 HB 30) Skin decarburization For the dimension 50 to 160 mm square, partial decarburization of 0,5% maximum of the diameter is acceptable. These values are applicable to the as-rolled condition that means without heat treatment Internal characteristics The material shall be free of flakes, unacceptable flaws as well as unacceptable inclusions and deteriorating segregations. Any defective spots shall not affect the workability and the usability of the parts Microscopic cleanliness Non-metallic inclusions must be distributed in such a manner that they cause no rejection of manufactured parts, nor affect their usability. The non-metallic inclusions are to be evaluated in accordance with DIN 50602, where procedure K is to be applied. The following cumulative characteristic values are to be guaranteed: Open-melting processed steel: oxide inclusions as per K 4 -evaluation Case-hardening steel: dim. > mm square 45 Tempering and AFP-steel: dim. > mm square 40 13% Chrome steel: > mm square 35 Remelted steel: K 1 -total cumulative characteristic values (oxide + sulphide) 13% Chrome steel: dim. > mm square 20 Stainless standard steel: dim. > mm square Core density In the as-rolled condition core density shall be guaranteed such that in the ultrasonic examination indications > 3 mm Ø KSR shall not be acceptable at Structural steel up to 250 mm square maximum Roller bearing steel up to 200 mm square maximum Stainless steel up to 200 mm square maximum For the structural steel with dimensions in excess of the above equivalent reflector size of up to 4 mm Ø KSR are acceptable in the ultrasonic examination if the supplier can prove that the indications are caused by core porosity and not by inclusions. 2.2 Condition Dimensions and permissible dimensional deviations Cross section permissible edge length deviations edge length [mm] structural steel stainless steel [%] [%] + 1, square ± 1-3,0 > square ± 1,5 + 3
3 Seite 3 von 6 > 200 square ± Edge radius and weight per meter The edge radius shall be 10% of the edge length at least. Deliveries for structural steel with specified divisibility length following weights per meter shall be applicable: Dimension [mm square] Diamond squareness weight per meter [kg/m] Dimension [mm square] A deviation of up to 5 from the squareness for 1% maximum of the billets is permissible Lengths Manufacturing lengths without special length and divisibility specifications: Plant Remscheid: m Plant Duisburg: shearable: m / sawable: m Fixed lengths without divisibility specifications with a tolerance of ± 250 mm per delivery length (8.8 m maximum). 4 Seite 4 von 6 For manufacturing-, fixed- and precise lengths: sublengths > 2.5 m are to be delivered separately bundled. Sublengths may make up max. 10% of the delivery quantity Straightness Permissible deviations from the straightness are max. 5 mm/m in a curve evenly distributed over the whole length. Undulated and twisted billets are not permissible. Any kind of strain or work hardenability shall not lead to shearing defects (e.g. cracks) while cold sheared Surface Ordered cold shearable bars must not have adherents of oil or emulsion containing oil. Billets machine ground on all sides shall not exceed a hardness increase depth of 0.1 mm maximum. Otherwise heat treatment shall be performed prior to delivery. Billets thus ground shall be marked by a white coloured ring on the surface at the labelled side, separately bundled and listed separately in the delivery documents Surface defects Surface defects > 0.3 mm are not permissible. Existing surface defects shall not cause break-ups on the forging, during hot working and heat treatment operations. In case of doubt, the surface condition of tests using hot upsetting specimens under the following conditions shall be decisive: - upsetting length h o = 1,5 d (d = edge length) - upsetting ratio h o / h 1 = Fettling spots Fettling spots shall not be deeper than the following variation from the actual dimension: Material group Structural steel: fettled in places: The length of fettling spots - max. 2x edge length Stainless steel Fettling spots shall be ground smoothly into the surrounding material. max. variation from the actual dimension 1,5 % of edge length 3 % of edge length Flame marks Flame marks shall not cause surface defects on the forging. Prior to the delivery of flamed material permissible flame marks shall be defined with the orderer based on respective reference pieces.
5 Seite 5 von Billet faces The billet faces shall be right-angled and without burrs on either side: Sawing material: Sawing marks shall not lead to defects on the forged piece. The depth of permissible hot sawing marks shall be defined with the orderer based on respective reference pieces. Hot sheared material: Unpermissible shearing tongues (overlapping material on the face) unpermissible shearing noses (sharp-edged creases on the round edges) and unpermissible residual burrs shall be removed on both ends. Shearing blade marks up to a depth of 1.5 mm shall be permissible. 3 Tests and Test certificates 3.1 Material Before making delivery of the material in a closed bundle, the supplier has to carry out a 100 % examination of the identity of the material, employing an emission spectrometer, and, in the case of unalloyed materials, by an additional spark test. 3.2 Surface quality and dimensions The manufacturer of the bar material has, by employing suitable testing procedures, such as circographing, magnafluxing or swing grinding, to ensure that a surface quality according to these conditions is adhered to. The checking of the dimensions is to be effected by means of gauges or a continuous measurement procedure. 3.3 Internal condition By means of appropriate methods of testing such as ultrasonic examinations, blue brittle tests, and/or pickling discs, the manufacturer of the bar material has to convince himself that the requirements made on the internal condition meets the requirements of this delivery specification. In the case of ultrasonic examination, defects > 3 mm Ø KSR are not permissible (see also item 2.1.9). 3.4 Works certificates For each batch a work s according to EN / 2.2 (in case the analysis is specified only) is to be send directly to the quality department before its delivery, in all other cases a work s certificate according to EN / 3.1 is to be send, latest with its delivery. In the works certificate, the results of the tests concerning the material characteristics required in the order or in the material sheet for the batch must be shown. The works certificate must contain the following details as a minimum: Batch number, manufacturer of the steel. Material designation and TLW-No. Melting analysis including trace elements Cu and Sn, Cr, Ni Mo in the case of unalloyed steel grades. Melting and casting process.
