1 Each Maryland community college offers some or all of the teacher education course work required by the Maryland State Department of Education for teacher certification but DOES NOT offer certification programs unless the college is a partner in a MAAPP. Use the tables to below to find the community college near you. Use the left column to find the title of the course as specified by the MD State Department of Education and the right column to find the name of the course at that specific community college. Maryland teacher certification has four major components: tests, content course work, teacher education course work, and an experiential component. You must fulfill all of the components in order to be certified to teach. Teacher certification program advisors (M.A.T., M.Ed., M.S., or MAAPP) require students to complete most/all course work at the same institution where the experiential component is completed. If you are in a program for teacher certification at another institution, always check with the institution in which you are enrolled to determine if a course will transfer before you take the course.
