2 Welcome to Touro College, Graduate Programs in and Special. Touro College offers Master s programs leading to dual certification in and Special at both the Birth-Grade 2 and Grade 1-6 levels, as well as a new Master s program in Special at the grade 7-12 level. Courses for these programs may be taken online (with the exception of student teaching courses, which may be completed at schools in students local areas) or at any of our campuses or other locations (Bay Shore, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island). Our faculty is drawn from established scholars in their fields as well as the ranks of retired superintendents, principals, and supervisors in the fields of education and special education. Theory and practice are integrated. For NYS certified teachers, we also offer advanced certificate programs leading to annotations in teaching students with multiple and severe disabilities and in teaching gifted and talented students. We also offer certified teachers the opportunity to extend their certifications to new areas and grade levels. We offer Touro students free preparation workshops for the NYS teacher certification exams. and training in the effective use of technology is an integral part of Touro s education and special education programs and, in addition to study of subject area knowledge and pedagogical knowledge and skills, our education and special education programs include training in the creation and development of electronic portfolios that may be used for presentations to prospective employers as well as for teaching purposes. 3 Why Touro? Touro College is a Middle States* accredited institution whose teacher education programs are registered with the New York State Department for live and distance learning delivery. Touro s graduate programs in education and special education together constitute one of the largest teacher education programs in New York State. Students may complete an entire Master s program online, with the exception of student teaching courses, which can be completed in a student s local area. Touro is student-centered and focuses on the learning needs of individual students, who are provided with personal advisement each semester. Touro offers online and face-to-face test preparation workshops for New York State Teacher Certification Exams. Touro students learn to use the latest technology and how to integrate it effectively into their classrooms (e.g., Smartboards, e-portfolio, interactive learning, video).
