10 Masters of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language Concordia University s College of Education, in conjunction with the Department of International Studies, offers a Master of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). This hour master s program is a combination of theory and practice offered for the teacher not working in a K-12 classroom, but primarily in other venues that work with second language learners. 14 Continuing Teaching License (CTL) The Continuing Teaching License is an advanced teaching license that is issued to qualified applicants that have demonstrated advanced competency in teaching and who have taught for at least five years. The Continuing Teaching License authorizes the teacher to teach in the subject areas in which the license is endorsed and at the grade levels at which the license is authorized. 19 Endorsements Adding endorsements to existing Initial and Continuing Teaching Licenses can be accomplished in one of the following ways: Practicum & Exam(s) If the specialty area content has previously been acquired through experience or prescribed coursework, the candidate is only required to demonstrate subject knowledge by passing the applicable state exams and instructional skill at the appropriate level via a supervised practicum, completing one work sample and teaching from that sample.
