Well done to all who have given theirs in already! Thank you to all the parents and friends who have volunteered to take part in this week s BOOK WEEK. We have many activities planned including assemblies, authors and storytellers, writing workshops, Readathon, book swaps and Book Character Mufti-Day. The theme is World Cultures. The Year 4 Spring Concert last week was a delight with so many solos and high quality group pieces. This will be followed by the Year 5 concert this week as well as the Year 4 production of Scheherazade. Next week is SCIENCE WEEK and many thanks to the parents who have offered their services for this. Be assured that we do everything we can to continue the delivery of the core subjects during these events. Periodically it is very worthwhile to have a more sustained focus on a particular area and we do try to spread them out! 3 Nursery This week Saffron s mum visited nursery to explain to us about being a doctor; she showed us how to put on a bandage and how to use a stethoscope. Heidi's dad brought his black cab to The Cavendish school. He explained how to stop the taxi on the street and we were able to climb inside the cab; Heidi was the driver. We had lots of fun. Sophie's mum visited nursery to read stories to us about the Chinese new year. She explained how the animals had a race and the first year of the new Chinese calendar was to be named after the animal who won.

4 Maths Challenge At the start of the Autumn term the Reception children were set an exciting challenge. They were asked to locate, in the environment, every number from 1-100! We would like to congratulate and thank the families in Reception J and Z for their efforts in finding all the numbers. Well done! Left: Reception Z s board Right: Reception J s board

5 Suzuki concert On Friday morning, all the girls who are learning Suzuki violin at school presented a short concert of four pieces which they have been working on since the start of the school year in September. It was wonderful to see and listen to such polished performances and to witness the progress which has been made. Many thanks to Ruth for her inspiring teaching.

6 Year 4 Spring Concert

7 Reception to Holland Park Ecology Centre On Thursday both reception classes went to Holland Park Ecology Centre. Despite the rain we had lots of fun looking for and learning about Minibeasts, as well as going on a scavenger hunt for natural objects.

8 Netball & Year 2 Last Wednesday our Years 4 & 5 mixed teams took part in a friendly netball match against Northbridge House. It was a great opportunity for all the spectators to see brilliant team work and sportsmanship from all the players. Congratulations to everyone. Year 2 Visit the Greek Galleries at the British Museum. To extend the History curriculum about the Ancient Greeks, Year 2 visited the Ancient Greek Galleries at the British Museum. They sketched many of the artefacts and the Nereid Tomb, noting the architectural features, including the pediment and columns. The classes then visited the marbles from the Parthenon finding features from the Birthday Parade for Athena as depicted on the frieze. Many parents accompanied them and everyone had a Grand Day Out!
