1 Staircase Component Guide This diagram illustrates the different names associated with the structural components of your staircase. This terminology is used widely throughout the staircase industry, but it may slightly vary between companies. Page 1

2 Staircase Construction Options The following diagrams are provided to give you a better understanding of the staircase designs that are available. These are the main styles of construction that are used. Some of these can be mixed and matched with each other. We also design and manufacture specific staircases to suit your needs. 3 Architectural Stair Range The company name says it all. When it comes to our architectural range, our designers spend the time, starting from the accuracy of our AutoCAD drawings through to the process of our CNC manufacturing that leaves no compromise for quality. The staircases are constructed with a combination of materials, steel, stainless, glass and timber. The architectural range puts the wow factor into your home. 4 Anti-slip Tread Profiles To ensure the safety of every person who uses your staircase, Designer Staircases has created some innovative designs to suit any application. These nosing strips create a coarse surface for your footwear to grab onto when going up or coming down the staircase. Page 4

5 Newel Post designs Contemporary series: A wide range of modern timber post styles, matched with a choice of newel top designs to complement any staircase. (The newel top designs are for illustration purposes only) Traditional series: Our superior selection of turned timber posts are hand crafted to suit the balustrades on your staircase. (the T1 or T2 knobs are best suited for these designs ) Page 5

6 Newel top designs The ornamental top of the newel post can be described in a number of different ways. They can come in the form of either a turned knob, machined top or a post cap. The designs shown below can be mixed and matched with any of the newel post designs in this brochure. These newel tops are available in a variety of different timbers for either a paint finish or a lacquered finish. It is common to match the timber species you select when designing your staircase. If you wish give a little face lift to your staircase, the addition of a decorative newel cap is the way to go. If you are wishing to update your existing staircase, these post caps can be purchased from our office, separately, as well as many other staircase parts. 7 Bullnose designs The introduction to your staircase should be as inviting as the grand entrance into your home. The bullnose treads that lead you onto the stair are an important element in the design. They come in many shapes, sizes and styles. They can be manufactured for both carpet finish & solid timber staircases. Designer Staircases has developed some creative ways of welcoming you into your staircase, providing you with an appearance that others can only admire. Page 7

11 Timber Baluster Range Our timber balustrade designs are available in a range of patterns and turnings to suit different tastes and styles. The balusters have been individually designed to match the newels. When choosing a design to suit your home, think about what other shapes and styles you have incorporated into your home. It is not uncommon to match different newel post designs with a totally different balustrade design. 13 Stainless Steel Cable balustrade Timber newel posts The Nautical style of the stainless steel cable will always be popular with handrail designs which demand the unobtrusive look and class that Designer can incorporate into many of your staircase designs. All of our components are manufactured from high-grade 304 & 316 stainless steel. Slimline tensioners give the highest quality finish that your staircase and balustrade will require. 14 Stainless Steel Cable balustrade Stainless Steel newel posts Complement your Stainless Steel cable balustrade with any of our range of square or round stainless steel posts. All of our stainless steel posts are constructed with 12mm pins on the top to fix either a timber or stainless steel handrail to. This allows the uninterrupted movement of your hand when holding onto the handrail. The same quality fittings are used to rig and tension your cable to complete the balustrade system. Combining toughened or laminated glass, solid timber and stainless steel, let us transform your dream staircase into reality.
