5 About Us The tremendous passion for travel in Africa is extremely contagious. Muguette and Jerry will go outside the box to promote African destinations and all related travel. Their vast experience on the continent makes them incontournable in both the digital and the printed press. The positive message on tourism and travel to Africa should be considered to be an example for the world press. The above statement from an Africa Association (ATA) board member and hotel operator is the kind of encouragement that keeps us thinking out of the box. When Africa Magazine was launched in 1995, it focused on ATA events hosted by African Tourism Ministries. These Congresses and Symposia, along with support from ATA chapters and partners, formed the backbone of our circulation. Times change and with them the entire media world has done a somersault! Ours is no longer a printed publication only - Africa Magazine reaches and influences people worldwide in print, online and on air. The forward march of computers and the internet has changed the playing field to our advantage. When I was an advertising agency president and buyer of advertising on a large scale, I made it a point to know the personality of each magazine and those behind it. Today we can present our magazine s credentials in a variety of exciting ways. Our readership is global in scope and comprised of adults with above average income. Many are travel and tourism industry professionals who contact us often. All our readers are interested in travel, but not all have been to Africa. We supplemented the print magazine with a website of several thousand pages, loaded with articles and images from 14 years covering all regions of Africa. Were on a first name basis with many African Tourism Ministers, who have become our friends and partners. That s why we decided in 2009 to build an Africa and Nature Library that will showcase Africa positively for years to come. Bird, Muguette Goufrani and the late Garry Chaloner. On our editorial team is Karen Hoffman of New York, a member of the ATA Board of Directors for many years.
