2 Introduction At Arlecdon Primary School we are very proud to be able to offer Wrap around care to our pupils and young people in the surrounding area. We offer an early morning breakfast club from 8:00am - 8:45am and an After School Club 3:15pm- 5:00pm. These are both available to pupils attending Arlecdon Primary School. We also offer a three week holiday club during the summer holidays. This is open to children in the surrounding area as well as children attending Arlecdon Primary School. These three wrap around services are available to children aged between 3 and 11 years old. Aims To provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for pupils before the beginning of the school day and after the school day ends until 5pm To provide an affordable service to parents/carers To enable pupils to eat breakfast before the start of the school day /have an after school hot snack in a pleasant, relaxed environment To provide a calm play environment for pupils. To encourage physical activities to promote healthy living. Staffing Both the breakfast club and after school club are run by two experienced Play Leaders who are also our school s Higher Level Teaching Assistants. Both members of staff are first aid trained. Whilst only one member of staff will run the breakfast club, the schools Senior Teacher and Premises Manager will be in the building from the start of the day. Teaching and support staff from school and specialist sports coaches also run activities as part of the after school club, whilst the wrap around care staff prepare hot food for the children. All staff will have current Barring Disclosure checks in place and are registered on the single central register.

3 Organisation Breakfast Club - Children are to be dropped into breakfast club by their parent/carer and signed in using the breakfast club register. The wrap around care staff will then escort children into school at 8.45am ready to start their school day. Children dropped off between 8.00am and 8.30am will be given a breakfast (choice of cereal, toast and fruit plus a drink). Children dropped off from 8.30am onwards will not be entitled to breakfast. After School Club - At school finishing time (3.15pm) teachers or support staff will escort children from class rooms to the wrap around care facility and check with the relevant member of staff that the children are signed in. If you think you are going to be late collecting your child from school please notify the school office on and your child will be placed in the after school club until collection. Any children who are not picked up by 3.20pm will be placed in the wrap around care facilities. Parents who are consistently late in collecting children from school will be charged for using the wrap round care facility. All children MUST be signed out of after school clubs (including parties) by the adult collecting them. Clubs such as crafts, sports and music are run by school staff or specialist coaches. These usually take place in the school hall. This allows the wrap around care staff member on duty to prepare the hot food and supervise any children in regular wrap around care that do not wish to take part in the planned activity. The planned activities/clubs alternate on a half termly basis. A club timetable is displayed in the school entrance along with a hot food menu. These will also be sent home to parents as part of the weekly newsletter. The planned activities in the after school club run until 4.15pm and then children are escorted into the wrap around care facility for hot food before collection at 4.30pm. Children may stay in the wrap around care until 5.00pm at an extra cost. Children wishing to attend these clubs MUST book their places in advance. Holiday Club Children are to be dropped off in the wrap around care facility and signed in using the holiday club register. Upon collection they are to be signed out using the same register.

4 Collection Parents should collect their children from the wrap around care facility or name an alternative person to collect their child, this person must be aged 16 years or over. If there is any change to this arrangement the wrap around care staff must be notified beforehand. In the event that a child is not collected by 5pm and no call has been made by the parents to inform they are going to be late, this procedure will be followed. The staff member on duty will endeavour to contact all persons listed on the registration form as collectors /emergency contacts. If none of these persons on all of the numbers given to us can be contacted, we will then contact Whitehaven police station (after 30 minutes of the after school club closing) to find out if there have been any accidents involving any of these people. The situation will be explained and advice will be sought. The attendance fees are designed to cover all costs. This includes: Staffing Food Equipment Day-to-day running costs. It may be necessary to change fees from time to time however; parents/carers will be informed as to the reasons why such an increase is needed.

5 Booking Children should be booked into the after school wrap around care in advance. This will ensure staff to children ratios are correct and sufficient food can be provided. Fire procedures Fire drills will be carried out and the clubs follow the evacuation procedures of the school. First aid There is a qualified First Aider available at all times. Any incident will be recorded in the school s accident book, located in the first aid cupboard in the wrap around care facility. Insurance Insurance cover is provided by Schools Insurance Policy. Policies The Breakfast/After School Clubs will follow the policies of Arlecdon Primary School. Please refer to the following policies: Medicines Policy Behaviour Policy Safeguarding Policy Anti-Bullying The club is also covered by the school s risk assessments. Homework Children may wish to complete homework in the wrap around care facility as tables are available for them to work at. However the wrap around care staff are not responsible for helping children with their homework.

6 Health and Hygiene It is the responsibility of the wrap around care staff to clean work surfaces at the end of each club session. They should also sweep any obvious debris from the floor and mop any spillages up as they occur. The school s cleaner will mop and vacuum thoroughly at the end of each day and clean the toilet facilities. The wrap around care facilities will be given a deep clean twice a week by the school s cleaner. Outdoor Area Children have access to the infant s yard during wrap around care (though junior children will not be allowed on the climbing frame). The gate to the junior yard should be kept closed at all times so children can be supervised easily. If children are outside, the wrap around care staff member will be supervising them. If some children are inside and some are outside the door MUST be kept open and the staff member will position themselves so they can supervise both areas. Equipment Where children can safely tidy up they are encouraged to do so. All toys and equipment are continuously checked for wear and tear and any equipment damaged during play is removed immediately. Children are taught to care and respect the equipment and their surroundings and encouraged to play constructively Behaviour The wrap around care follows the same behaviour policy as the school and children are expected to behave as they would in school. In circumstances where a child s behaviour is a continuous problem, they may be banned temporarily or permanently depending on the circumstance. Birthday Parties The wrap around care facilities can be booked for birthday parties. The wrap around care staff will organise and run the party. Parents can choose from a selection of themes for their child s party which will include an art and craft session and a disco with party games. Party food will also be provided.

7 Complaints In the event of a parent wishing to make a complaint, this should be made in the first instance to one of the wrap around care leaders. If a parent is still concerned then the matter should be taken to either the Head Teacher Mrs Wendy Figes or the Senior Teacher Miss Katie Olley.
