THE FAITHFUL FEW VISION STATEMENT The Faithful Few s responsibility is to continually work to improve the amount of opportunities for Alaska s youth in the areas of academic enrichment, scholastic development and community activism and engagement. Our mindset is that It Takes A Village to Raise A Child and therefore as members of this village we are taking the responsibility to help in rearing our youth to be productive, responsible and scholarly individuals that will have a mindset to strive for greatness and continually pay it forward. Our vision is put into action through programs that take a holistic approach to developing our students by offering college preparatory services, mentorship, financial aid education and community service. B. PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT The Faithful Few College Prep Program is a holistic program that is inclusive of college preparatory activities, mentoring, financial aid literacy and networking. This program is undergirded with the mission to serve our underrepresented youth in the Anchorage community, so that they may gain exposure to the opportunities both within the state and outside of it. Our hope is that by leveraging community support from parents, academic professionals (teachers, administrators), business leaders and faith-based organizations, we will be able to support our youth in their journey to gain higher education. C. CORE ACTIVITIES Since the goal of The Faithful Few is to build today s youth and tomorrow s leaders, we believe the organization s programmatic focus should be aligned with its mission. Therefore we have outlined the following program offerings that will reinforce our mission and support our youth development. MANDATORY 1. Mentoring- We will match students to mentors from the community that will be business professionals and/or academics. Mentor-Mentee ratios will be 1:3 and they will be required to meet at least two times a month. 2. Financial Aid Literacy-We will offer financial aid workshops that will educate students and parents on the FASFA, state and local aid options, scholarship research and portfolio development. Every student will be required to have a completed portfolio prior to the tour. 3. Community Service- Students will be required to complete 20 community service hours (means 4 hours per month). These hours will need to be logged on their service sheet and a reflective essay will have to accompany each experience to add to their portfolio. 4. Scholarship Portfolio Compilation Each student with the assistance of their parent/counselor/mentor will complete their individual scholarship portfolio that can be updated each completed grade year. OPTIONAL 1. College Tours- We are partnering with Nicole Ford; Director of Stepping In the Right Direction: HBCU Tours, to take the students that complete this program and fundraise to visit 11 HBCUS during April Then in the future we will work to have tours to include other diverse set of colleges and universities across the country and within the state. a. Fundraising- Students and parents/guardians will be required to participate in group and individual fundraising. This will help reduce the out-of-pocket commitment this excursion r requires. Each student is required to pay: $2,300. *This only applies to families who choose to participate in the College Tours The Faithful Few College Preparatory Program Page 2 of 7

MENTOR COMMITMENT Mentors are required to support students in their professional and academic growth as it relates to their expertise and personal abilities. We expect our mentors to model the way for our youth, so they know how to carry themselves in various arenas and in the presence of different audiences. Below is an overview of mentor commitment details. 1) Meeting- We require that mentors meet with students face-to-face two times per month and complete a meeting overview sheet for these meetings and turn it into the committee. 2) Scholarship Portfolio Workshops- We ask that mentors attend at least one workshop with the student and during the course of month help the student in adding to their portfolio and managing it. 3) Academic Enrichment- Engage in dialogue and find out what the student s areas of improvements are and work with them to work on them and make them better. Examples: testing techniques, SAT/ACT prep and/or study skills. 4) Networking- As a professional we recognize that our mentors are connected within the community and we ask that you responsibly expose students to the professional world. Engaging them in networking events, cultural activities and community engagement opportunities. 5) Skill Building- Ask mentors to interview their mentors and agree upon 1-2 skills the student wants to work on or sharpen and agree to make that a core project of the mentoring relationship. 6) Fundraising-We are asking the mentors to support their mentees in meeting their financial goal for the program, in order to attend the HBCU Tour. This can be through monetary donations and/or by assisting with scheduled fundraisers. F.
