5 Project relevance and objectives: Isolation is an important fact for the building sector due to the new regulations coming into force that claim for clean atmospheres free of noises and thermally isolated. Current isolating materials provide a high degree of isolation but their composition leads to a relative high VOCs emissions. Development of a cellulose based material providing high degree of thermic and acoustic isolation without contributing to the air pollution. Improved properties than current isolating materials. 6 Scope: Waste paper could be also used to manufacture cellulose foam. Cellulose foam is made by steaming waste paper pellets and a foaming agent. Using all the raw materials from natural sources, the foam will be a environmentally friendly product and free from VOCs. A typical composition could be: Nano cellulose from waste paper Starch PLA as foaming agent Foam should show both good mechanical and isolation properties. Besides the product should be able to be used as loose filling or to be shaped like a solid board. Page 6

9 Other uses Cellulose foam could also be used in the packaging industry as substitute of traditional foams in protective packaging. The material in panel way could meet the impact absorptiveness requirements. Advantages: Identical technical performance as traditional foams Raw materials natural sources Possibilities of valorisation in the waste paper stream unlike traditional foams Page 9
