2 Thank you for choosing to visit us. A campus like ours is rare in London which you will see as you walk around today. Our beautiful grounds are enhanced by some remarkable historic buildings and fantastic new modern facilities, not to mention plenty of friendly faces! A whole tour of the Roehampton Lane campus should take about 45 minutes but please feel free to take your time as you explore. START Your tour starts in the Information Centre, the new core for a number of services available to our students including; Student Enquiries, Careers, Funding and Disabilities! Exit the Information Centre and you will see the grey-panelled building to the right in front of you. This is Lee House, belonging to Digby Stuart College. It was constructed in 2004 and offers self-catered, en-suite accommodation.! Carry on walking, (be careful of approaching cars) and turn left, following the path behind Lee House.! Continue across the crossing at the security hut, walking in the same direction onto Southlands Drive. You are now heading towards Southland College. SOUTHLANDS COLLEGE Home to the Department of Media, Culture & Languages and the Roehampton University Business School! Southlands College was relocated from Wimbledon in Queen s Building is used for teaching and administrative purposes. Walk down the hill into the courtyard, the buildings that surround the quad are self-catered halls of residence. You will see the Quad Café where you can purchase food and drink.! Turn around and as you walk away from Southlands College, follow the path to the right, Duchesne Walk, passing the Methodist chapel. You are now re-entering Digby Stuart College. DIGBY STUART COLLEGE Home to the Departments of Drama, Theatre & Performance, English & Creative Writing, Humanities, and Social Sciences! Digby Stuart College was founded in 1874 when it specifically educated Catholic teachers, and today it still holds a strong Roman Catholic tradition.! Continue down the path, you will pass Shaw House on your right. This is self-!"#$%$&' ("))*' +,#(' *,-'.$/.)$' #/' "' 0"#' sharing a kitchen, living room and bathroom. 1($%$',*'")*/'"'2)/!3'/4'$56*7,#$'0"#*8'! Continue left down the path. You will pass the Duchesne Building on your right, a recently constructed state-of-the-art teaching facility that houses Crucible, the national centre of excellence for human rights education.

3 ! Continue forward and on your right, you will pass the Hirst Building which houses the Department of Social Sciences and Fincham, home to the Department of English & Creative Writing.! Carry on over the crossing and walk straight onto Digby Stuart Drive.! On your right is the University Library. The ),2%"%9',*' :"&$' 7.' /4' 4/7%' 0//%*' "5&' (/)&*' over 500,000 books and journals. It also accommodates video and audio suites, private study areas and a cyber café.! Carry on walking and you will see, to your far left, Erasmus House, a large administrative building and home to Digby Stuart College. This is also where the Digby Stuart Roman Catholic Chapel is located. As well as having their own chapels, Roehampton also has a Muslim prayer room, a multi-faith prayer room and the Jewish Resource Centre, together with a number of religious societies.! If you look to your left, you will see Bede House halls of residence. Bede "!!/::/&"#$*' ;<' *#7&$5#*'.$%' 0//%' +,#(' shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Richardson Building is directly in front of you and is home to the Graduate School and the Information Centre.! Turn right now and then up Father Ryan s Walk. The white building you are passing on your right is Jubilee which houses the drama studios. TV Roehampton (TVR) is at the back of Jubilee. TVR is the University s own video production company, and offers the use of the latest professional editing facilities, studios and digital equipment for students.! Carry on past Jubilee and turn left. Walk on and go through the double doors on the right. Above you is Newman House halls of residence which are similar to Bede House. =")3,5>'#(%/7>('#($'("))+"9'9/7'+,))'?5&'#($' Digby Diner on your left offering food and drinks.! You will notice that there is a temporary diversion at present. This is because work has started on the new Digby Stuart Square. The Square will deliver a radical improvement in the circulation at the heart of the Roehampton Lane Campus, providing direct unobstructed access between the Colleges for pedestrians. The Square can be used for outside performances, social events and teaching and will be a great space for students and staff to use during breaks, meetings or for studying. Modern concrete benches and little alcoves with integrated benches along the wall will provide seating and meeting space.! Follow the diversion signs through Howard and Jubilee for Froebel College. Howard houses the Departments of Drama, Theatre & Performance and Social Sciences, and the University shop Amigo where you can purchase food, drink and other groceries.! As you exit Jubilee Building, carry on walking forward under the archway. You are now entering Froebel College. FROEBEL COLLEGE Home to the Department of Education! Froebel College was founded in 1892 and is named after Friedrich Froebel, inventor of the Kindergarten. The college seeks to operate according to the humanist principles which he established.! Turn right at the signpost onto Wisteria Walk and follow the pathway, turning left under the 0/+$%$&'"%!(+"9'"&:,%,5>'#($'@,$+'/4'A%/$bel Lake on your right (if you turn left you will arrive at Garden Court halls of residence and the campus Medical Centre). You will see a fountain as you approach Grove House, which is a listed 18th -century Georgian 27,)&,5>8'B#'("*'2$$5'7*$&'*$@$%")'#,:$*'4/%'?):' and television productions.! Walk left to the fountain and up the stone steps. Turn right into the car park (on your left is the Froebel entrance from Roehampton Lane). You will come to the entrance of Grove House, which consists of academic and ad- :,5,*#%"#,@$'/4?!$*C')$!#7%$'"5&'!)"**%//:*8'

4 Froebel reception is also here. The 18th century style of the house is still maintained.!' Diner on the right; inside here is also the Union Bar and Froebel Coffee shop.! If you continue straight down the path, you will pass Cedar on your left, the Art & Design Education block and Lulham, where the Department of Education is based. You will then come to Aspen, Linden and Willow, ensuite halls of residence for all students and PGCE students, and Jebb Auditorium, used for lectures and other events.! Turn around and walk back the same way turning left after the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), where a number of sports can be played. You should then see Davies Building to your left; Roehampton s dance studios are situated here.! Step into the courtyard on your right, you will see the front of the Union Bar to your right and the Roehampton Students Union to your left. Feel free to go inside and have a look. The Department of Dance is in Lawrence Building as well as the International Centre.! Walk back the same way that you came into the courtyard and turn right continuing on the path. You will then pass Olive Garnett "5&' HIJD!#,@$C' #($' K5,@$%*,#9'?#5$**' *7,#$' on the left. Follow the path to your left which will take you onto Lime Tree Walk and around Froebel Lake, overlooking Grove House.! Take the left fork in the path. You will exit at Digby Stuart College near Fincham. You will see the main gate further ahead You can now decide where you want to go from here as this is the end of the Roehampton Lane campus tour. TOUR OF WHITELANDS COLLEGE Whitelands College is home to the Departments of Life Sciences and Psychology. Whitelands Colleges is approximately a 15-minute walk from the main campus.!"#$%&''$()*$+$,+-$+.$./0$1+23$"4$./0$5&6&- tors Guide. Head back onto Roehampton Lane and turn right, continue along Roehampton Lane - passing Froebel College on your right - and cross over Clarence Lane. You will pass Downshire House where the University Finance and Human Resources departments are based. Follow Roehampton Lane until you see the row of shops; cross the road and turn right into Danebury Avenue. Turn immediately left into Holybourne Avenue, Whitelands College is on the right after Laverstoke Gardens. From the main entrance continue to the reception, which is in front of you, at the end of the drive. The reception is available, during /4?!$'(/7%*C'#/'"**,*#'9/7'+,#('&,%$!#,/5*8' 1. Step out into the courtyard to view the historical buildings. Parkstead House (in front of you) was built in the 1760s for the second Earl of Bessborough as a country retreat. After three generations in the Bessborough family it was sold to the Jesuits as a home for their novice priests. The Jesuits added two wings and a chapel in the 1860s and 1870s and the corridor in front of you, to link the two wings. The clock was also added at this time. 2. Go back into reception, turn left through the double doors and walk along the corridor to the second set of double doors into the Study Zone. Through the panoramic windows you will see the student residences LM<N'*#7&9'2$&%//:*C'"))'$56*7,#$C',5'0"#*'/4' 6 10 people). 3. Go back through the double doors and turn right into the May Day corridor. The May Monarch is a historic tradition at Whitelands, carried on since the 19th century. It was introduced by John Ruskin in 1881 and involves a student being crowned as the nicest and likablest. This tradition continues every year, with a May Queen or King elected by their fellow students. 4. At the end turn right through the double doors. On your left is the dining room with a spectacular view overlooking Richmond Park and on your right is the William Morris Lecture Theatre (300 seats) the largest lecture theatre at Whitelands. O8' E/' 7.' *#",%!"*$' P' #/' #($'?%*#' 0//%C' #($' large student common room is on the right. Facilities include: table tennis, pool, comfortable seating, a plasma screen and stunning views! 6. Pass the lift on your right, through glass doors and turn left into the laboratory!/%%,&/%8'q$"@$'#($'?%*#'0//%'29'*#",%!"*$'r' situated next to the elephant skull. S8' I5'#($'>%/75&'0//%C'#7%5')$4#'2"!3',5#/'#($' reception area. If you have time, walk around the exterior of the buildings. 8. Leave the reception, turn right, and walk around the Chapel. Stay on the path as it leads to the right and this will take you to the front of Parkstead House. Parkstead House is a Grade 1 listed building, and was originally designed as a Palladian villa in the early 1760s. You can join the gravel path for a walk around the grounds.
