2 Welcome A big welcome from the University of Roehampton, London We like to welcome you to Roehampton slightly earlier than UK students so that you can settle in, adjust to a new time zone and benefit from information specifically designed to make the start of your academic programme more comfortable. Orientation gives you time to adjust and to feel more confident in speaking English, if this is not your first language. The Roehampton orientation also includes an introduction to London and the public transport system. TUESDAY 6 JANUARY 2015 ARRIVAL DAY Check in the Arrival Hall which group you have been allocated to Afternoon Early arrivals Evening pm Once you have settled into your room, you will have the afternoon free to obtain an Oyster card locally (essential for public transport) and to visit Asda for groceries. See Getting to Asda in this guide. You can pick up information in the Arrival Hall on where to purchase an Oyster card. Chill-out evening, Digby Diner, for all new international students. Remember to check your schedule for the following day to see the start point for your Orientation Programme. 4 5

7 FRIDAY 9 JANUARY 2015 ALL GROUPS LIVING ON CAMPUS 11am 11.45am Refreshers Fair Digby Diner It is your chance to mingle, ask questions and explore student led societies, join a sports team and other opportunities the RSU have to offer. 11:45am London Photo Frenzy Digby Chapel Please do not be late! n You will get a Travelcard for the day this will get you all around London and back again. n You start the London Photo Frenzy at Roehampton. At the end of the Photo Frenzy we will meet you in London. You will then be free to either explore more of London or return to campus. n Winners will be announced by . GETTING TO ASDA (FOR STUDENTS LIVING ON-CAMPUS) 1. Cross to the opposite side of the road to the University on Roehampton Lane. 2. Take the 265 bus it will say 265 lworth on the front of the bus. 3. The bus ride takes about 10 minutes and you will see Asda on your left hand side. 4. return, you need to cross the road outside Asda and take the 265 bus back to Roehampton in the direction of Putney Bridge. At this store you will find: Groceries iletries Clothing Home shopping items Pharmacy (not 24 hours) Photo Department Travel Money You must have an Oyster card with credit to travel on the bus. 8 TIER 4 STUDENT VISA ID CHECKS & POLICE REGISTRATION ID Checks will be available during Registration and will run from 5th January 16th January with morning and afternoon slots in Information Centre from 10am 12pm and 2 4pm. If you are not a national of a European Economic Area or British Commonwealth country and you are studying for longer than six months, you may have to register with the police within seven days of arriving. The stamp in your passport will confirm if you need to do this. It is very important that you register with the police. If you do not, you may experience problems with visas and immigration in the future. What you need to take with you: n registration fee (currently 34) n passport n your offer letter from Roehampton.
