Test scenarios based on accident analysis Source: GIDAS* data analysis Road-crossing event: Position of Pedestrian TTC: Time to Collision collision possible reaction of pedestrian Possible trajectories of pedestrian from driver s perspective Relevant use case: Pedestrian crossing, car going straight main scenarios adult, walking child, running from right yes no from left no yes obstructed yes yes not obstructed yes yes *German In-Depth Accident Study
Test setup Principle moving vehicle moving target dummy perpendicular moving directions position and velocity of vehicle and target dummy to be recorded time dependent Relevant values vehicle velocity at point of first visibility of the target dummy (P vis_veh ) vehicle velocity at the potential collision point (P coll ) velocity difference (reduction) is the relevant value to assess the system performance Ideally the tests should be performed contactless to avoid readjustment of sensor systems Testing 4 different test scenarios each scenario to be tested 10 times
Test scenarios with obstructed pedestrians Typical time to collision is TTC = 1300 ms Scenario 1: running child from the left Scenario 2: walking adult from the right obstruction obstruction V Ped = 2,8 m/s V Ped = 1,4 m/s = 3,6 m = 1,8 m = 14,5 m = 14,5 m Testing can be performed with the dummy approaching always from the same side if vehicle sensor technology is symmetric!
Test scenarios with not obstructed pedestrians Typical time to collision is TTC = 2700 ms Scenario 3: running child from the left Scenario 4: walking adult from the right cover cover to avoid visibility earlier than 2700 ms V Ped = 2,8 m/s to avoid visibility earlier than 2700 ms V Ped = 1,4 m/s = 7,6 m = 3,8 m = 30 m = 30 m Testing can be performed with the dummy approaching always from the same side if vehicle sensor technology is symmetric!
Requirements and standards for laboratory test ambient conditions: Illumination, daytime, no direct sun, Weather: dry conditions Objects: no disturbing objects street, brakes and tyres: Continouosly measurement of vehicle speed Reason: decelerating vehicle, measurement with light barrier not precise Possible detection of system charcteristics when dummy is pulled away dummy shape and physical properties: measurement eqippment: Shape and physical properties
Four resulting test scenarios Scenarios to represent accidents with obstructed pedestrians before crossing Typical time to collision, TTC = 1300ms S1 running child from the left Velocities: child dummy: 2,8 m/s vehicle: 14,5 m child dummy: 3,6 m S2 walking adult from the right Velocities: adult dummy: 1,4 m/s vehicle: 14,5 m adult dummy: 1,8 m Scenarios to represent accidents with not obstructed pedestrians before crossing Typical time to collision, TTC = 2700 ms S3 Velocities: child dummy: 2,8 m/s Velocities: adult dummy: 1,4 m/s vehicle: 30,0 m child dummy: 7,6 m vehicle: 30,0 m running child from the left adult dummy: Notes: Testing can be performed with the dummy approaching always from the same side if vehicle sensor technology 3,8 m is symmetric Scenario 3 and 4: In order to avoid the visibility of the target dummy earlier than 2700 ms before the potential collision it will be necessary to obstruct the target dummy during the test. S4 walking adult from the right
