University Mission Programs must state their Program Mission and specify how this mission supports both the University's Mission as well as any Mission that the College the Program is housed under happens to have. College Mission The graduate mission of Marshall University is to provide quality educational opportunities at times and places convenient to students, employing alternative delivery systems and rich learning resources. The institution promotes excellence in instruction, research and public service in the interest of enhancing the intellectual, professional, and personal growth of students, faculty, and staff. Throughout the state Marshall University offers master s degrees, post-master s programs, doctoral degrees and professional development options according to needs and with a minimum of duplication. Program Mission The mission of the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Research M.S. program is to produce graduates who have broad didactic knowledge in the biomedical sciences, but also have specialized research training in one of our five interdisciplinary research clusters: Cancer Biology; Cardiovascular Disease, Obesity, and Diabetes; Infectious and Immunological Diseases; Neuroscience and Developmental Biology; Toxicology and Environmental Health Sciences. The mission of the M.S. Medical Sciences area of emphasis is to provide an opportunity for students to enhance their competitiveness for admission to medical school. This increases the pool of qualified applicants to the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Support for College Mission The MS in Biomedical Sciences supports the mission of the Graduate College by providing high quality graduate education and furthering the intellectual life of the community, state and region.
