Introduction Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative is a collection of home-schooling parents who have organized in a cooperative home-school model through which we hire tutors/teachers. This partnership assists and enhances our children s educational experience by providing our children a social and classroom environment. The model combines the experience of professional educators and group learning with the flexibility and individual attention of homeschooling to effectively teach the curriculum that we have chosen. Our homeschool cooperative has been at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church for 10 years as a part of the church s Weekday School, but we have outgrown the available space there. To allow for the growth of our cooperative and to meet their ministry needs we are moving over the summer of 2016 and will be ready to begin school in the Fall of 2016 at our new location. We are working closely with the leadership at Cedar Springs during this time of transition. Starting in the school-year we will be meeting in space leased from Cokesbury United Methodist Church. We are excited about the opportunity that this provides our cooperative to reach it s next stage of maturity. The structure of our co-op is that children go to school on either Monday, Wednesday and Friday and homeschool on the other days OR children go to school Tuesday and Thursday and homeschool on the other days. Students follow a syllabus for common subjects while allowing flexibility to the homeschooling parents for other enrichment. Classes will be formed, in general, by combining two grades into one classroom. Classes will be combined as follows: K (Kindergarten and a two year offering, Transitional Kindergarten), 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6. Although we believe in the benefits of a two grade per classroom model, we may have a one grade only classroom if there is a sufficient number of students for one grade. We want to make every effort to accommodate families that apply for a spot in our co-op.

Tuition and Fees The tuition for the school year will be based on the 2015 / current rates (while adding an hour to our current school day). We will also be reinstating the 10% sibling discount. Additionally, we will be changing the schedule of fees to a 12 month payment plan starting in June. The advantages of moving to a 12 month schedule include a reduction in monthly cost to families by spreading the outlay across 12 months and an improved cash flow for the Co-op as we move to our new location (offsetting lease and startup costs, etc.) An additional benefit could be an earlier finalization of class lists allowing classes to be filled from waiting lists earlier in the year as needed. It is essential that registration be reflected in enrollment so that the Coop can meet its commitments, especially to our teachers. Registration fee will be set at $145 per child for MWF and $125 per child for TTh. All applications will be accompanied by a paper check. Funds will be held by the Co-op if the child is assigned to a class or is placed on the waiting list. Children who are not assigned a class by June 1 or do not wish to be placed on the waiting list will be refunded the registration fee. If a child should be offered a place on a class list and chooses not to take it, that family would be forfeiting the registration fee. Monthly costs on the 12 month payment schedule will be approximately $272 per month for MWF students and $207 per month for TTh students. A 10% sibling discount will modify this number for other children enrolled in the Co-op in the same family. Class Registration Fee Tuition #Months Paid 8:30am-2:30pm MWF $145 $272 / month 12 months, starting June 2016 TTh $125 $207 / month 12 months, starting June 2016 *10% sibling discount

Proposed Grade Offerings The below table details the grade offerings available to students for the registration process. Students will register for one grade level (i.e. 1st ) not a class group (i.e. 1/2). To maintain a desirable student to teacher ratio, based on the enrollment, most classes will have a lead teacher and an assistant teacher. Grade Transitional Kindergarten Kindergarten 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 6th Grade Class K 1/2 3/4 5/6 * These offerings are subject to change.

Oak Grove Homeschool Co-op Kindergarten Offerings Because each child is unique in their academic, physical, social, and emotional development, we offer a two-level kindergarten class to help each family meet the developmental needs of their child. We want to provide homeschool families with a kindergarten co-op that emphasizes learning through play and hands-on activities and values the development of the whole child. We want our children to have a fun and engaging introduction to school that will build a great foundation for their love of learning throughout elementary school and beyond. The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class is a gently-paced springboard into reading and math skills. Students in this class will do developmentally appropriate curriculum at school and at home with lots of opportunity for classroom and home-based art, music, social studies, and science enrichment. In their second year, students in TK would advance to our accelerated Kindergarten (K) class to further build their foundation in reading, phonics, writing, and math skills (as well as benefiting from a second year of classroom and home-based enrichment with a continued emphasis on learning through play). To be eligible for application to the TK class, your child must be registered with a homeschool umbrella and be 5 by August 15th. (Exceptions to the age rule may be approved on a case by case basis if the child is registered as a kindergartener with an umbrella school by June 1st and is assessed as ready for TK by a co-op teacher or designated staff.) Our accelerated Kindergarten (K) class is for children ready to jump directly into reading three letter words and will follow a one-year pace for developing the phonics and math skills necessary to enter 1st grade in the co-op. It is based on the curriculum plan we follow currently in our kindergarten offering. This class will follow an advanced kindergarten curriculum at home and at school while maintaining an emphasis on learning through play and hands-on activities. With this option, we offer homeschool families a kindergarten with accelerated academics as well as classroom and home-based art, music, social studies, and science enrichment. To be eligible for application to the K class, your child must be registered with a homeschool umbrella and be 5 by August 15th. Acceptance to each class will be contingent upon an evaluation by a co-op teacher or designated staff or, if applicable, a recommendation form from a Cedar Springs Weekday School teacher.

Process for Oak Grove Homeschool Co-op Registration for 2016/ On the appropriate date, families wishing to enroll in the co-op will begin the registration process by filling out a registration form and issuing registration payment for the class(es) in which they wish to enroll their student(s). Dates are as follows: Current co-op families February 16th Cedar Springs Weekday School families February 17th Public Registration February 18th 2. Once all registration forms have been collected the placement committee will review the demand for classes and determine the final class list. If demand for a certain grade level is low a class for that grade level may not be viable. If a class does not have sufficient enrollment to be offered, all registration fees will be returned. We will begin a waiting list, when all the open spots are taken. Priority registration for existing co-op families will be as follows: Co-op families will have priority over non-co-op families if forms are received prior the close of registration on the 18th. Co-op families registering for the same days will have priority over Co-op families wishing to change days. 3. Once a family has filled out a registration form, issued payment and been placed on a class list, that family will be allowed the opportunity to go through the proper steps to complete enrollment. The following must be completed: Parents must fill out an application for enrollment. a) For incoming students, a report card must be provided from the previous school (except K students and strictly homeschooled students). Homeschooled students will be asked to inform the co-op of which curricula the child is using. b) Every incoming child not currently enrolled in the co-op must come in for an assessment with a teacher or co-op representative. Children moving up from Cedar Springs Weekday School 4 s or 5 s may submit a recommendation from the child s current teacher in lieu of the assessment. c) At least one parent must attend a session with a co-op representative to ensure that the family is aware of the requirements of parents in the co-op educational model. d) Parents must turn in a signed Teaching Initiative. 4. Once the enrollment process is complete, the co-op staff will review each application. Upon approval, the family will be informed by letter of the spot in the co-op available for them. At that time the student s registration will officially be filed and the student will have a secure spot in the co-op. If an application is not approved, the family will also be informed by letter. Some students may be accepted on the condition that they be accompanied by a coach at the family s expense. Note: If an application for enrollment is not approved by the co-op staff, the registration fee will be fully refunded to the family. If a family should, on their own, choose to withdraw from the registration process, that family would be forfeiting the registration fee.

Expanded Schedule and Logistics - Registration forms will be distributed with this document. Each family must submit a completed form for each child and submit a check as reserved payment for each child. - At the time of the submission of registration information, all forms and payment for a family will be assigned a number designating their place in line. All forms must be completed and payment attached before a number will be assigned. - Dates and Times - February 16th, 9:30am to Noon - Registration forms and payment will be accepted for existing Co-op families. - February 17th, 9:30am to Noon - Registration forms and payment will be accepted for existing Co-op families and Cedar Springs Weekday School families. - February 18th, 9:30am to Noon - Registration forms and payment will be accepted for all families. - Monday, February 22nd - The preliminary class list will be communicated. Families will either be informed that their student has been assigned to the class, assigned to the class pending the evaluation process, placed on the waiting list, or that the class did not have sufficient enrollment to be offered.

Thank you so much for considering Oak Grove as an educational option for you children. We are proud of our Co-op and what it has become over the last decade and are excited about our future at our new location and beyond. Above all else, we hope you find the right fit for you family, whether it is with us or somewhere else and would love to provide any additional information that you may need. Feel free to contact us by any of the means outlined below. Best Wishes, Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative Board Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative PO Box Knoxville, TN (865)
