1 PAWTUCKET PUBLIC LIBRARY Children s Library 13 Summer Street Pawtucket, RI (401) x209 childrens@pawtucketlibrary.org The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Citizens Bank, and Pepsi. Local support includes RI Children's Librarians, the Friends of the Pawtucket Public Library, McDonalds, Friendly s Ice Cream and the Pawtucket Library s Caidin Fund.
2 Children s Library Registration encouraged, but not required. Call the Children s Librarian to register at x209 or to childrens@pawtucketlibrary.org Story times run approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Mother Goose Story time Class Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. For ages newborn to 24 months Parents and caregivers with children ages newborn through 24 months are invited for playful songs, rhymes and games followed by social time. Older siblings are welcome. No class June 5,12 July 3. Toddler Story time Class Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. For ages 2 & 3 years old Toddler Storytime Class is for children ages 2 and 3 with their adult caregivers. This program features stories, songs, finger rhymes and a craft. Siblings welcome! No class June 4,11 July 2. Preschool Story time Class Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. For ages 3 to 5 years old Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 years with an adult caregiver are invited to the library for stories, music, movement and other fun activities. Younger siblings are welcome. Held in Campbell Auditorium. Note: Each week the library therapy dogs, Tinker Bell and Wendy, join the class wearing costumes related to the stories for the week. No class June 3, 10, July 1 Music With Mr. Rowland 10:30 a.m. August 21, 28 Families with young children (babies to age 7) are invited for a musical jam session! Bring a friend and get ready to sing and dance to lively tunes or play along on rhythm instruments. You won t want to miss a beat.
3 Children s Library Read to therapy dog Tinker Bell! Tuesdays 5:30pm to 6:30pm in Caidin Room Need to practice reading or just like reading to dogs? Then Tinker Bell is your dog! Call the Children s Library at ext.209 to reserve your 15-minute reading spot. This program is free for children of all ages. Family Movie Night First Wednesday of the 6:00pm Campbell Library Auditorium Children with their families are invited to watch a free movie (rated G or PG). Kids 10 or older may attend without a caregiver. No movie July 2nd. LEGO Club & Game Day Every Friday 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm Bring your imagination, we'll provide the LEGOs Megablocks & Duplos too! A variety of board games and card games will also be available. Drop in! Free with no registration. Spectrum Story Time Class Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. July 10 through August 14 Children s Library Caidin Room This is a 6 week program for children who are on the autistic spectrum. Program will include picture schedule, sensory activity, and fun stories! Best for ages 3-5 years (preschool learners). Limited to 6 families. Registration required. Drop-in Holiday Crafts & Games 2:30pm 4:00pm Father s Day Craft Saturday, June 7 Fizz Boom Read Fun Saturday, July 19 & August 2nd
4 Children s Library Children of all ages can be Summer Readers. Sign-ups start Wednesday June 7:45 pm. The goal: read twelve hours or more during the summer. Summer Readers Read on their own or with family and friends Record the number of minutes/hours they read Report three times at the library or bookmobile Receive free admission passes and prizes! All reading counts including whole books, chapters, reading list books, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, newspapers, audio books and anything else that has a title and an author. Reach your reading goal and enter to win!... Summer Readers who reach the reading goal will receive a certificate and prize at the finale party (8/20) and also be able to enter all raffles. You must be present at the Finale Party to win a raffle on August 20th. 6 Wednesday, June 25 th at 6 p.m. 7:45 p.m. Summer Reading Program Kick-off Party Let's go to Hawaii with Laura Matta to kick off our Summer Reading Program! Learn about all things Hawaiian, such as Mount Kilauea, speaking of things that go "fizz, and boom", as well as Hawaiian music and dance. All ages in the Campbell Auditorium. Wednesday, July 9th at 10:30 am Paul Helou Music for Kids! Get ready for an exciting, interactive musical program with guitarist/storyteller Paul Helou. From start to finish, the children are co-creative participants in Paul s show which blends songs with improv, movement, drama, word play and more. Wednesday, July 16th at 6 pm. Magician The Great Baldini Back by popular demand! Come early to get a seat, the Great Baldini s magic shows are always extremely popular. Thursday, July 24th at 2 pm Biomes Marine Biology Center There are so many exciting marine animals that call Narragansett Bay home. Some of them display fascinating ways of hunting, such as the mantis shrimp, which either smash or slice their prey into digestible pieces, or the humble sea cucumber, who can depart with some organs to throw off a predator. Come learn about sea creatures and the many ways they BOOM! Monday, August 4th at 6:00pm Dave Marchetti, Animal Experiences Dave Marchetti's Animal Experiences program is a fun and incredibly hands on way to meet turtles, snakes, lizards, some small mammals and Wally the alligator up close and personal. Dave's program combines learning some interesting facts about his animals with the thrill of actually handling them. Thursday, August 14th at 2:00pm Hampstead Theatre Alice in Wonderland This is a wonderful tale of a young girl whose boredom takes her on a journey of imagination. Through Alice s travels, everyday things become extraordinary. Wednesday, August 20th at 6:00 pm Summer Reading Program Finale Party starring: Yunus and Habibah Quddus-master of the spoken word & poetry Henna by Heather free Henna tattoos After the performances, there will be prize raffles (free entries for children that have read 12 or more hours during the Summer). All programs will be in the Basement Library Auditorium and are sponsored by the Caidin Fund and the Office of Library and Information Services.
