2 St. Luke School Lions on the Loose Summer Math Review Packet Dear St. Luke Student, We are looking forward to teaching you many math concepts next school year. In preparation for another successful start to a new school year, you must review the concepts and complete all problems included in this packet. The concepts in the packet are those which you should have mastered in your math class. We encourage you to work each problem with great effort and perhaps review your addition and subtraction facts on a regular basis this summer. Over the summer: 1. Complete all problems. You may answer the problems directly in the math packet. 2. Show all work, when necessary, next to the problem. 3. Make sure your name is written on your math packet. 4. Work a couple of pages each week in your math packet instead of waiting until the last minute. From time to time, go back and review work you did earlier in the summer. 5. Practice all your math facts for a few minutes every couple of days. For August 6 th and when you get back to school: Bring your completed math review packet to St. Luke s registration day, August 6, Your math packet will be graded for effort/completion and will serve as a classwork/homework grade in math for the first nine-week grading period. There will be a grade deduction for incomplete work. In the first week of school, an assessment drawn directly from the assigned problems will be given. 3 St. Luke School Lions on the Loose Summer Math Review Packet Dear Parents, In preparation for another successful start to a new school year, your child must review the concepts and complete all problems included in this packet. The concepts in the packet are those, which your child should have mastered while attending their math class. The concepts are referred to as the 2 nd grade essential math skills. Essential skills are developmentally appropriate, basic math concepts that are essential for the student s understanding of the math being taught. The mastery of them is critical as they are challenged in their 3 th grade class. Our goal is that each student has mastered the skills that we deem essential at the completion of their present year in school. Therefore, the packet is a review and a way for students to show what they have mastered. We encourage your child to work each problem with great effort. If your child finds an essential skill difficult, please consider extra instruction this summer and working more problems pertaining to the skill. Please encourage your child to work the summer math packet with no guidance, assess, and then perhaps complete the packet a second time. Below are some resources for your child to use in order to facilitate the mastery of each essential skill where they have room to grow.
